Mark,

I appreciate your letting us know and also for publishing what you know about the status. This saddens me to a great degree but at this point it may just be better to let it go than to try to fix the reputation. So, we move forward. For those that have been supporting this group, pay the annual dues to either AKTI or Knife Rights. Continuing to support our rights in this manner is the best we can do for knife collectors.

Hi folks, there is a short item in the new edition of KNIFE Magazine reporting on the formal closure of the NKCA (the issues are starting to hit the streets now).

I have not been able to reach Lisa either, so every once in a while I would shoot an email to the Tennessee Secretary of State's office to verify the NKCA's existence. In late July they told me that the NKCA would be formally dissolved at the end of the month because they had not been filing their annual reports.

Last I heard from Lisa, she still claims that those who paid (and haven't requested a refund) will be receiving their knives. It just took a long time to get enough money together to place the order. My fingers are still crossed, although it has been over 3 years of waiting since I sent in my money.

Rlch,

I believe you know the same info we do. I believe by this point the NKCA is done, it would take a call to the state to confirm that the charter is dead.

I do not know the truth or not of what happened, I just know it did not have to happen this way. The NKCA could have been brought into the current century and been a partner in assisting AKTI and Knife Rights in keeping our hobby legal and fun.

I offered a place to discuss this because I felt the members had a right to have a gathering space instead of being spread out all over the web. I was also rather hoping a few people would step up and take it over, turn it around. I do not think it is possible at this point

In November 2014, I sent a check for my club knife with my lifetime number, and also for 2 youth knives for my grandsons. The check was cashed December 9, 2014. December 15th I had called and texted Lisa several times and she finally responded that she was trying to raise funds for the knives and have them shipped. She mentioned that NKCA was no longer in business and that she was selling her personal knife collection to get the knives produced. She also said that she put I $10,000 of…

She mentioned that NKCA was no longer in business and that she was selling her personal knife collection to get the knives produced. She also said that she put I $10,000 of her own money to keep the NKCA alive. True or not true. I have tried several times since to contact her but haven't hade any response. I am out $427.70 for the knives which also the annual dues for the grandsons. I hope that the knives get delivered (tho I rather doubt it.). If anyone hears any further information, I would appreciate the heads up. Thank you.
I certainly agree with Jan.

Support of these 2 organizations will help maintain our ability to collect, use, & carry knives. Something many of us simply take for granted.

I don't know at what point things changed, but in the early years of the organization (1977 - 1990), a financial report of all money coming in (from dues, knife sales, magazines subscriptions) and a report of all money going out (wages, utilities, knife and printing costs) were all available to all members. Sometime in the last 15 years that information wasn't sent out freely anymore, probably to save costs. And now I doubt you could get a copy even upon request.

As far as where did the money go from the pre-paid 2014 knife order ... well I am guessing the organization had to rob Peter to pay Paul. The NKCA has been in the red continuously for 10+ years. Likely that money from the 2014 knives was used to pay the leftover debt from the 2011 or 2012 knives. Again, I have no inside information, I'm just guessing.
