I just received my new Steel Will Gekko. The blade is N690co and 5.1 inches long. It's a little heavy, but it's to be expected with a full tang knife. I also got a DMT fine to lap my high grit Shapton Glass Stone.

Nice pics , Stephen.

Is the blade & tang also thick .. adding to the wgt of the Gekko ? I do not have one ..so.. am just wondering. Thickness would certainly add strength & durability ..and.. weight.

The blade and tang are relatively thick.

The thicker tang will make for a strong & sturdy knife. I like the blade grind too. Looks like it would stand up to some abuse .. if ever required.

Diamonds are certainly the way to go .. both sharpening & lapping. I still maintain a very hard & fine grit natural Arkansas stone in addition to my diamond whetstones. Something of a romantic attachment at this point .. having had it for close to 40 yrs now.

That's a nice looking knife right there!

I really like the grind on this one.  Although I am not overly familiar with the steel, I appreciate that they made a full tang with a wide spine.  It ensures the durability of the knife.  If heat treated correctly it will last and last

I have Arkansas stones that I still use but my go to stones are Shapton Glass. Which is what I use the diamonds plate to lap. I've already polished out to toothy edge that came with it.

It is supposed to be comparable to VG10. It's structurally comparable to 440C, but has a good amount of Cobalt. The Cobalt is supposed to toughen it up so it isn't chippy.

Stephen, I'd heard the N690co comparison with 440C, but didn't realize there was also the VG10 similarity.  The VG10 in my Spyderco Superleaf has been very good to me.

If you plan to put the Gecko through its paces I'd love to hear a review down the road.  I've been very drawn toward this exact knife (orange scales & all), & knowing it's made with that Bohler steel keeps drawing me back to it.  Honestly it's the company itself that I'm just too skeptical about, at least for now, at least when it comes to a knife of this price.  How's the Steel Will warranty?

Regardless of my skepticism, I'm glad you pulled the trigger, & I hope the knife works out incredibly well for you...
