Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I have a question? For years now I've admired the sheer beauty of the Randall Trout & Bird Knife, Model 8. Lately I've seen the same knife for sale advertised as the Model 8-4. What is the difference, if any?

The other Randall I love is the Model 5 Small Camp & Trail Knife. Looks similar except for the blade size & straight shape.

I've always felt that Randall's were out of my league but I was looking at a catalog from 2003 when they were going for $215.00. Sure wish I had bought it back then.

Randall has not changed their model numbers. The 8-4, is a 4 inch model 8. Kent, I don't know you but I don't think a Randall is out of your league. If you can't afford one, save up or look for a used one. You can swing it if you really want one.

Kent,

That Randall 8 is a sweet model.  I am with you, I wish I bought 4 or 5 of them

Yeah, I wish I had bought that knife back in '03 when I got their catalog. They wanted around $225 for it back then. I called the factory today & learned that the Model 8-4  is the same as the Model 8. The "4" is merely the length of the blade (4").

They only want $340.00 for that knife from the factory  if you don't mind waiting 'till March 21st (my birthday) 0f 2016? I'm not even sure I'll be alive by then, otherwise I've seen "new" ones on eBay go for about $580.00 +.

I just can't afford that kind of bread right now, but somehow, someway I know I'm gonna get that particular Randall.

I'm simply awestruck by it's beauty.

KENT GABLE said: I don't know why they add the "4" after the Model 8 as it only comes in a 4" blade according to the factory.

kent if you check some of the web sites you here people talk about on here you might find that knife i was looking for one knife i could not find anywhere a fellow member suggested it was daves knives i found it there cheaper than anywhere i looked.good luck my friend...

Steve-right now I have my eye on a new Randall model 8 and I'm tempted to just go ahead and buy it. It's just that lately, I've been buying quite a number of knives and it's hard for me to justify spending even MORE money at this time. Especially this much. Any Randall doesn't come cheap nor does any quality product.

I'm just thinking that sometimes we put off things that we really want to be practical & perhaps we owe it to ourselves to just go ahead?

Thanks

Kent,

I love this... Your so right

I bought my Randall model 7 in the year 2000. I rewarded my self for quitting smoking.
I've been rewarding myself just for making it this far, without Any reason.

Kent, if you get a Randall or another quality knife let us see it.  There's some great knife makers in this club, I would check them all out before I made up my mind on a particular knife or brand. Good luck with your knife project.

Kent,

Robert hit the nail on the head with that one.  We do have many quality makers here that may be able to customize a knife for you without the wait
