CHECK OUT BOONE TRADING POST FOR SCRIMSHAW NEEDLES AND MATERIALS. GOOGLE KLNIFEMAKING SUPPLIES AND GET EVERYONES CATALOGS. I USE SO MANY DIFFERENT HANDLE MATERIALS. SHEFFIELD HAS A MICARTA CALL ANTIQUE LINEAR MICARTA THAT SCRIM FANTASTIC AND IS VERY INEXPENSIVE FOR KNIFE HANDLES. A SOURCE OF MAMMOTH IVORY SCRAPE IS ALASKA FUR EXCHANGE. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR, I BOUGHT JUST UNDER $10,000 WORTH OF MAMMOTH LAST YEAR ALONE

I had a person tell me that I have emerged into the field of art. He said I'm using a very old art form and using a modern day medium. He said that kind of art is in demand.  LOL

Chuck, Very well done and what an intresting way to have inexpensive materials to work with I LOVE IT

I started training myself in doing this work by using ivory colored electrical wall switch plates to learn how different types of tools would work. I also experiment using hashing, stipple, and cutting as well as different mediums for coloring such as ink, paint, charcoal, shoe polish. I've also used some faux bone. I've been using needles of different sizes and exacto blades. I'd love to know where some of you get your tools from. I'm attaching some of the pieces I have done. Remember, I'm new and just starting out.

Beautiful work here. I recently started learning this fascinating art form and will be asking lots of questions so please bear with me.
