Hey guys, just wondering what you think of the new Victorinox GeoTech Softgrip Scales? I recently purchased a Tinker with these new scales. First impression? They look great, and feel great. Only one thing about these really attracted my attention. I noticed a small scratch on one corner of the knife scales, yea and it  looked all nice and shiny underneath!! So i proceeded to remove the rest of the"Geotech" PAINT?? And yes under neath is a great looking shiny surface with the exact same pattern as the original Geotech surface!! I dont recommend that people remove their Geotech surface, but i kinda prefer it!! Let me know what you think

Hi John,

I also recently picked up a Geotech Tinker, with the idea of taking it for a test drive.  I purchased it on line from a stock Victorinox photo, which fooled me to believe that the scales are 3-dimensionally textured.

As you noted, the scales on the Geotech are soft, and the surface is painted, meaning that 3-dimensional grippy look is just a faux image.  And a real disappointment.

To summarize, and to agree with your previous review, those scales are soft, and painted.  Both of which don't really well suit my normal uses.  In a word, the Geotech is too 'fragile'.  And as you already discovered, easily subject to permanent paint removing scratches.  So, rather than sacrifice the pristine condition of this new Tinker, mine has sat in it's box, waiting one day for an appropriate use, or perhaps for a more ideal (soft handed) user.

I will try to post a couple of pictures below, and see what happens.  Should they turn out, then my thanks also go out to the wonderful Ms. Jan Carter for recently sending the groovy iKC photo cloths in these images.

Best regards,  Zilla
