Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I liked Terry Waldele idea of doing the what if senarios like he came up with in the "Stranded" discussion. Alright here is a what if question.

You get picked for a survival reality show and you have no idea where they are going to drop you at in the world. They are telling you they will provide you with the correct clothing and basic gear for the climate so you will not have to worry about packing for this. The only things you are allowed to bring are two knives one fixed blade and one folding.

What fixed blade and what folding knife are you going to bring to use in a unknown environment?(Just wanting to see what the top fixed and folding blades are that people would use in a survival situation.)

Then if you had your choice of any combination fixed or folding and heck saws or axes to bring with no limit to the amount what would they be. You will most likey be on the move during the show so keep in mind you will be carrying what you bring possibly on some lengthy hikes.

Feel free to post pictures of your knives if you have the ones you want to bring.

Does it have to be a folding knife? I think I would want a 12 inch heavy fixed blade. Nice chopping power and then a smaller reasonable sized knife.
Hey I added another part to it to cover bringing what ever you want to bring blade wise. Keeping the fixed and folding knife questions to see what people say their top folding and fixed blade knives to take would be.
I like the topic.Tough choices.I probably take my Cold Steel kukhri machete for making shelters, chopping wood, and others tasks a big blade calls for.The folding knife would probably be a multi-tool with pliers, but I would put my Swiss army tweezers in the pouch because tweezers have been a Godsend in my out door excursions.I am curious to see others replies.
My folder would be a Victorinox and the fixed blade would be either a Fallkniven F1 or H1. I love both of 'em. If I could carry a chopper of some kind, it would be a Gransfors Bruts Wildlife ax. A wire saw would also be pretty handy.
hey all - this is a difficult one, so many choices. but here goes
fixed: Bayley Knife - Bear Grylls special (on my wishlist)
folder: Ka-bar Dozier Hunter model 4071 (nice tough folder)

other options:
fixed: RAT - rc3 . folder: ColdSteel - Pocket Bushman. axe - ColdSteel - Rifleman's Hawk
multitool: Buck 730 X-tract

well - that's it - hope i've done you guys proud
Jake, Jeremi, Slade, Jocelyn, great answers and Wako you sure have this one thought out well. Yea Wako I would want the folding saw as well but I just don't know if I trust my Gerber exchange a blade for a long term situation yet. Maybe that would be another good topic to start, favorite folding or backpacking saws.

Yea I am still narrowing down what knives I would take along so that I can answer my own question haha. But everyones answers seem to be pretty good and would be good choices.
I would take a Bushmaster Survival Knife (Fixed blade, OAL 15", lots of survival gear in its hollow handle, including a compass, fishing gear, flashlight, etc. My folder would be a Gerber 22-41517 Freehand One Hand Opening Multi-Plier.

BUSHMASTER SURVIVAL KNIFE

GERBER FREEHAND MULTI-TOOL
I think I would have to bring my SOG Fieldpup and my Victorinox Spartan. I once I get my Ontario RTAK-II I think I would take that in place of my SOG Fieldpup. I have always stayed away from large fixed blade survival knives mainly because I did most of my camping with my Boy Scout Pack and then Troop once I crossed over and we were never able to even carry a fixed blade and were taught that a pocket knife should work for all our needs because for big jobs we have axes and saws. Probably for the best best to because if we would have had no restrictions on blade length it would have turned into a who can bring the biggest baddest Rambo knife, but we learned the basics with a small knife. But Over the last year I have seen the benefits of a large blade survival knife like the RTAK-II for stuff like batoning.

For bringing anything I want...
I am bringing my SOG Fieldpup, Mora #1/0, Victorinox Spartan, Ontario Rat-1 serrated, Gerber Exchange-A Blade, and my Estwing Hatchet. I always like having a back up knife and that is why everything is doubled up pretty much. And plus I weighed all of these blades including sheaths and all together a dead on 3lbs of weight. Not all that much weight for what is coming along. I would also add the RTAK-II once I pick on up in the near future.

Hey Martino,
Excellent choices! One question though: Does the Cold Steel Bushman come equipped with a survival kit? I bought one a few years back that didn't come with one, but I remember seeing one advertised somewhere online that had a waterproof survival kit in the handle with a rubber cap on the end of the handle to keep the kit in the handle. It may have been an aftermarket add-on, but I modified mine by using a plastic oiler bottle as the container for survival stuff and a crutch end cap as the retainer cap on Bushman's handle. Worked great! IMHO, Cold Steel makes great knives for the money. Take care.
Off the top of my head, A RC-4 (Iwould have to buy one) and my Leatherman surge.
Or my BK&T 10 crewman and SAK Farmer.
I would say my choices would be
1. military 18in machete and my leatherman core
2. Cold Steel Trench Hawk(have to get one) and my Tool logic survival rescue knife with fire steel
