It really is good stuff to play around with you just have to remember to put it away to dry for a week or so after the first bit of work is done. When it has dried a little, with very little splitting, you can do the more detailed work. I call these sketches because I am trying out ideas with no particular end result in mind and it isn't meant to be kept forever. For instance getting under the fingers would really need the use of gouges and I really only use a knife, but maybe in the future?

Still, quite well done.  And thank you for the idea of using ivy -- haven't tried it yet, but plan to at some point in the future...
