OK. This is a 2-blade pocket I picked up years ago. Pretty decent quality. At first I thought Golden Rule, but the stamp isn't the same. As you can see, it advertises a business in Gowanda, NY. The…Continue

"Dale, You are correct, I do know this one may have the stamping used from that time frame but Ken Daniels has been at this a long time LOL.  It will also have the new DFC stamp on the other side to prevent any "confusion" LOL"

"I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE IS A CONNECTION There was a Pa. Nagle that actually was knife related http://iknifecollector.com/group/kniferesearch/forum/topics/nagle-re-blade-knife-company I have not read that article for quite some time.  Think I…"

"Nagle's the man store was celebrating its 35th year in business is Gowanda, York in 1954. My bet is this knife was contracted as an ad knife or give away promotional time between 1947 and 1954 by Gutman Cutlery. Nagles would've celebrated…"

"It could well be... my question is that these kind of clear-celluloid picture knives really weren't being produced in 1947, when Gutmann started...the pin-up girl dates it as definitely not 40s or even 30s, but earlier. That's what's…"

Jan Carter replied to Louis's discussion Can anyone help ID this knife?
"That tang is without a doubt a Gutmann.  It does not list the many manufactures that it could have been.  Even today some companies do not want the name of a specific manufacture tied to their knives"

D ale replied to Louis's discussion Can anyone help ID this knife?
"Yeah .. I too wonder who manufactured it."

"Great!!. Thank you. Does it specifically say it was Gutman? And does it mention who might have actually made it?"

Tobias Gibson replied to Louis's discussion Can anyone help ID this knife?
"Just came across this: Goins refers to a "G.C.Co Gowanda NY" mark used on a picture handle knife from the early 20th century. Also refers to a Gutmann knife from Italy....same markings."

"The only knife makers I know that were active in Gowanda NY were C. Platts ( maker of early Case & Son knives), Schatt & Morgan, and Gowanda Agricultural Macinery Works. None of these have a GCCC tang"

"What company is being advertised and why is it assumed the knife predates 1947? It looks very much like a post war ad knife."

"Gutman was not a knife maker per se. Gutman was a knife importer located in New York, having knives made to his specs first in Soligen and then later in Japan. Hi knives had the G.C. CO stamp with a country location. The tang stamp did vary over…"
