iKC History! Our Community's First Group Club Knife

Hats off to the Indiana Residents Group here at iKC. These guys are making history early in our community's short life already.

I've written before how this "virtual" knife club is every bit as real as any knife club in the world. Granted, their clubhouse is housed within iKC and they don't have weekly meetings down at the Western Sizzl'n, but, boy, have they made a name for themselves here among the… Continue

I don't like it. No, I don't. You know that little red man picture- the default image representing a member who can't or won't load up a picture for us.

Folks don't tend to like change so just to up and change their default picture will rock their boat (I know this already because I changed it twice now- once for Halloween and then yesterday for Thanksgiving- both of those times was just for lite hearted fun :) )

So, to change it will upset some folks, BUT I… Continue

All the Kinves on eBay

Knee to Knee and Toe to Toe”

What is the true value of this “knife collecting passion” to any of us? Knife collecting to your friends is viewed the same as mine view it. No doubt, raising the eyebrows of the “un-enlightened”. Only those that do…. Know It! It’s like a “biker” says, “if I have to explain … you’d never understand”.

I spoke of the “devaluing of my portfolio” – First, “Frank! It’s a ‘collection’ not a bunch of printouts or once-a-month reports that come… Continue

The Christmas Catalog

Oh boy, I just received the new Shepherd Hills Christmas catalog! There are some really beautiful knives in there. I’m not talking about the great array of mammoth ivory or pearl or exotic handle materials – there are some new designs and new treatments. The first thing to catch my eye was the five blade trappers. Five blades on a trapper is a little much, but these were full size and they had the Cigar Band type of shield. If I were to design a knife, it would have a Cigar Band shield of some… Continue

All the Kinves on eBay

I see where Case has announced the Tang Stamp for 2010….

It makes me wonder…. Will today’s knives that we are buying (NEW) have the same long term value increases that we see in 50+ year old knives on today’s market?

If you have seen my portfolio you know that it is full of 20XX Case Blades…..

I have been observing with great scrutiny the run through of knives on eBay. I’m gathering some stats that reach beyond just the eBay digressions about policy and practice… Continue

Veterans' Day 2009

My grateful thanks to all the veterans of our military and clandestine services for your service to America. The old phrase "All gave some, and some gave all." should be in our hearts every day of the year. I salute you. I do not know who took these photos in the aftermath of war, but they express, for me, our love and gratitude for our veterans' sacrifices.…

Grading a knife's condition

Knife Condition Grades - weighting all the factors for old knives

When you are looking at an older knife, just how much weight do you put on the different factors to determine it's overall condition grade? You know what I'm talking about here: the Condition Grades, like- Mint, Near Mint, Very Good, Good, Poor and Junk- at least those are the grades of one of the systems floating around out there, but there are others.

I know not all of us are into… Continue

First post

This is my word to anyone that wants to achieve the furthest taken edge available today to mankind; open your views, take in the influence, don't deny it. Failure is knowledge, knowledge is power.

Hone your mind and body for the steel, every stroke you pull is done with commitment and full intention of what you are trying to accomplish. Never sit down and polish or sharpen without any thoughts beforehand.

Especially the last words are something that I constantly have to remind… Continue
