Hi TJ.  That is not an "A" at the end of your model number, that is a date code and as Charles already said, it is from 1988.  The model 527 was made with many different types of handle materials.  I have seen engraved knives before but the other handle materials are much more common.  Yours seems to be in excellent condition, which is great.  I don't see any pocket wear at all in your pictures.  That's a beautiful knife you have there.

Your Gent knife is dated 1988. The one's that I've seen come in hard clam box.
