Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Lets say your favorite manufacture has decided not not make knives any longer.  They tell you in January 2013 that they will only work through the materials they have on hand and when that is done they are going out of business.  This should take 8-10 months at the current rate of sale.

They are not announcing it but don't ask you to keep quiet about it either.  If you tell your buddies, the rate of sale will escalate and they will be out of business sooner.  This means you may not be able to get all the patterns you want because as we all know the budget only goes so far per month.  So what do you do?

Max,

Good work on growing another knife collector.

It is a shame when a local company like that has to close their doors but it can make for some great buys. Ivars has an interesting point, just move back to some older companies wares

That kinda happened to me only it was an ace Hardware by me going out of business and they had a lot of old Case knives, so I told a bunch of people but only a couple bought them the rest just talked about buying, over a couple of months I bought what I could.

One of the employees asked because I was buying often so I told him they were collectible next time I came by to make a purchase they were really picked through and he was telling me what he had bought! Another one HOOKED!!

Just kidding Jan.

I think I'd just let it happen and maybe tell a few select people. Probably buy a few extra of their pieces in the mean time.

LOL....No Alexander  GEC is healthy and will continue to bring us the knives we all love (Thank goodness) If I thought all my friends were losing their jobs I would be doing something to help, no speeding up the process LOL

No one is going under it is truly just hypothetical brought about by a discussion of the number of US knife manufactures we have had in the past in comparison to those out there now

Tell my friends, buy what I can, and life goes on.

Comment by Lee Smith on January 21, 2013 at 17:43

I think I would buy all I could then tell my buddies.

I think I would begin with JJ's tactic but I would follow Brad advise.  I would ask the question, can I share the news

Try and buy as many Prototypes and Artist proofs as you can afford. That is what I did when I found out Lone Wolf Knives was in Negotiations with Benchmade. 9 of the 10 PAUL Knives I have are 1st articles from their vault. Do I feel bad about taking advantage of the info, not in the least.
