Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Now that is way too controversial to talk about here!

You know we all are passionate about topics we feel strong about- for some folks it's football (War Eagle!), for others it's religion (..let's not go there), for others it is politics (...don't go there either), but there are many others.

Really though there are hot topics with just about every subject matter and when you mix a room full of individuals together (virtually or real world) there is always the potential for heated discussions... cause we just see things differently.

We have been very fortunate here at iKnifeCollector. I have watched, for going on two years now, our members abide by our community "understandings." We all get along very well considering all the different opinions and preferences represented. And do you know what? These differences make our community unique...and interesting.

Like you, I enjoy meeting knife folks from all over the world- folks who like different type knives- some production and others handmade, some brand new and others covered with patina, some great big Rambo type knives, while other knives are those little pearl Sunday knives.

One thing I've witnessed about our community too is our respect for each other and how well we allow our fellow members to have, and share their opinions. Do we always agree with each other? No we don't, but we handle it like good neighbors- not feuding kinfolks.

With all this said, I do have a question though. And while I don't want to discuss all the particulars here (not right now anyway), I do want to get your opinion on this question-

What do you think is THE most controversial topic you've seen talked about when it comes to knives?

It goes without saying- I don't want any people's names here or any of the actual details of the argument, only high-level topics and/or identifying the subject matter.

...I'm just curious :)

When you or your loved ones are in danger, common sense should be the rule of the day, if you have to stop and think about the myriad of laws that we live under, you're dead.

Politically correct? what the hell is the good of that in a life or death situation?

The Army taught me one sure thing, there are two kinds of soldiers, the quick and the dead.

A big part of me wishes I had your valor and honour Robert...just wanted to add that given that its not controversial but for me needed to be said and said aloud...

Well for me there are no right circumstances, once I've been forced to respond then it's pretty much automatic pilot for me. You see I've been there, I've had to defend my life and the lives of my brothers in arms.

I would say to you, your first responsibility is to your family, and your love ones. If the opportunity presents itself and you must respond then it’s up to you to defend yourself at all costs, do what needs to be done.

And remember there's a lot of truth in the old saying "There are no winners in a knife fight".

Robert said  "So I’ll leave you with one last question for you; what are the right circumstances?"

Under the law and reason; when the life and safety of you or a loved one or even an innocent person is being threatened.   The law restricts what you can and can't do and reason should tell you when you can do what the law allows.   An eight year old boy saying he is going to kick your a__ does not qualify, however a well muscled man with prison tats saying the same thing certainly may, if he has the means and ability.

If you need more circumstances I invite you to read about Theresa Saldana.

I have the joy of living in canada where just about everything is illegal to carry...and everything is considered unliked...i think locally were down to a less than 4 inch blade...no assist, thumb assist, no gravity, no balde by itself movement, cant be hiding in your pocket and you cant carry it in the open either...i believe thats the way it works here....

See I knew it, I'm way off topic. You know I really need to read the subject title before I respond to something. I'm still really new to this blog, so with that said let see, most controversial topic. Why can't people in CA carry a button knife; but you can carry a thumb assisted blade, or a gravity type knife, but you can't carry a butterfly knife? BUT you can collect all of them put them in case or show them on the wall. So what's that about?

Here in Washington state they are trying to pass some really bad knife etc. laws that will outlaw just about any knife that can be opened by one hand or is over a certain length . The law will go after the manufacturer/maker. That is of interest of most knife makers or very well should be. Giving this, I would say that it is hard not to include politics at times.

And anyone who has any inkling, at all, as to what is transpiring in Washington DC these days should realize that if we don't get a short leash on them, the last thing we will have on our mind is talking about knife making or making knives.

Yea I would like to keep everything on a knife making basis like the old days and just live and breath knives, but when bad people start screwing with your livelihood and lifestyle, you need to sit up and pay attention before your toast.

I do envy those who can plug into a football game, night after night, and turn the woes of the world off and manage to not think even twice, or maybe even just once,  about the plight the nation or the world, but this is in itself is a disaster in the making because it allows the travesties to manifest that we shudder about and would rather ignore.

Enlightenment is not only a good thing, it is also now a dire necessity to keeping our cherished way of life.

That said, I will try to find other ways to enlighten the masses and keep this forum to just knife related stuff if it is possible.

Well I’m going to let this go at this point, I’m not sure this is the right place to talk about all this stuff, I’m pretty sure we are going way off topic, and that’s not why I’m here, I love knives, and have a couple I’d like to upgrade, you know you get them, and there not quite right. So I'm looking for people who might be willing to help me out. "little plug".

So I’ll leave you with one last question for you; what are the right circumstances?
