The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Over the last week I acquired 4 blade blanks for customization. The materials they use for their "S" line of products are 440C, manufactured in China.
The ones I selected are pictured below:
The top one will definitely receive a Stag taper handle, the Guthook blank will receive a Purpleheart Wood scales w/ Pink liners(for the younger niece). The bottom 2 are to be more detail specific in the handle materials. I would like some ideas on the materials for those, but keep in mind my skill level when making those suggestions. Novice.
Part Deux:
The knife Fairy brought these to me Tuesday:

btw ~ That's a really nice looking hunk of wood you've got there! (words every man longs to hear...lol)
Looking good, Brad!
Did you make that mosaic pin yourself?
I really envy your access to the right tools and equipment.
You just keep gettin' better n' better, my friend. Good show!
Thanks Ron. I bought the mosaic pin awhile ago. Used it of the previous Guthook for my other niece.

S-183C Yukon Skinner-Stonewashed acid finish. Olive wood. Dark blade/Light wood.
Got this blank awhile ago, and I finished it up today. But I did document the progress.
The S183C Blank from Premium Knife Supply:
OAL = 8.5" (215mm)
Cutting Edge = 3.5" (88mm)
Handle = 3.5" (88mm)
Thickness = 9/64" (3.5mm)
After cutting the the Olivewood turning block I could see where I needed to direct the grain for the best presentation.
After getting my pieces cut out slightly oversized. I glued one side and after letting the glue cure for a hour, I drilled the holes for the Stainless pins and lanyard hole. Then I repeated it for the other side.
I didn't get any pictures of the drilling and pinning, sorry. So we skip right to the results of the sanding and contouring of the handle. Pictured below is after 80, 200, 600 & 800 grit sanding.
Below is the finished product after polishing and buffing.
I liked this blade as soon as I saw it online. I went with thick handles again as the 1/4" thick Olivewood scales give this knife plenty of handle to grip.
Brad,
That is all Donnie does. We sell to buy more materials LOL. But it works
