Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I like USA made Schrades & Schrade-Walden knives...obviously. Old Timers, Uncle Henry's and the models that pre-dated those lines. Saw-cut Delrin, Stagalon, Butter-n-Molasses, etc. handles. They're all great in my book.

I am proceeding slowly with adding to my collection, in the beginning I was going like gang busters. But, the pickings are getting slim at least for good/great condition knives.

Although I am not buying much now, I never tire of seeing them or looking for them. So if you have some or have come into some, let me see them.

Eventually I will try to get all I currently have into 1(or 3) photos for this discussion. For now these will have to do.

That would be an excellent Project Tom. But, as you said the asking price is too hight.

She obviously has been told that the display board and knives will bring that amount or more and was possibly looking for verification from here, or potentially a buyer. Unfortunately, a serious collector is not going to pay anywhere near that asking price. I might be interested, specifically for the board, however, I would take the knives and get them rehandled with some exotic woods, which would render them non collective as far as original knives goes. Might be a good project though.

Here are some new pick ups for me.

That Old Timer red bone set is not easy to find. Do you display your knives?

Doug,

I do display my knives, at least 90% of them. I have a knife room that is loaded with store displays and what not.  The 10% I do not display are single knives that are in wooden displays of their own.  I have run out of room to be able to display them without cluttering up the room.  I have a lot more Schrade Items that are hard to display such as Schrade Shirts, Jackets and Hats and a lot of Schrade Cut Sheets, catalog pages and price sheets.  I am currently working on setting up large binders with all of these products.  I also have carved out an area within the Schrade room for my Canal Street Cutlery knives (approx. 200).  Canal Street is made up of former Schrade employees and executives and they do a great job producing fine knives. They came into business after the Schrade Bancruptsy.

Tom,

I display my knives too, I don't have much use for a knife kept in a safe or a closet. Due to limited room, I put mine in frames and hang them on the wall, like the White Bone display I posted in this group under Show our Schrades by Herman Williams. Herman told me an interesting story about the Canal Street location where Canal Street Cutlery is. When Schrade occupied the building, there was a canal there. In the basement of the building were two rooms, accessible by a trap door, that would flood when the water was high. Schrade dumped the overruns and seconds down into those rooms. No one would go down there due to the stories about the rooms being infested with snakes. One day he took a lantern, a bucket, and a pick and climbed down a ladder to see what he could find. There weren't  any snakes, just a lot of blades that could poke you. After doing some digging, He brought up a five gallon bucket of knife frames and blades. He told me that the SS700 sampler that he re-handled in White Bone, now in my display, was one that he brought up in that bucket.

Brad,

I was looking at your roll of folders and the picture of the fixed bladesfixed blades. You've got some nice knives there. I've been trying to find a 144UH or a 14Ot for a while, but the nice ones are few and far between, and when they do show up they're pretty pricey. There's a Dixie set on Ebay with an opening bid of $100. Thought about trying for it and selling off the LB-7 but I'm not much for etched blades. One will come along sooner or later. I notice you have one of my favorite patterns in your roll..the Slim Premium Stock, and if I'm not mistaken isn't that a 707UH back on the right.

I believe this was called the Custom Hunter and was made for 1 year, 1979, between the Schrade/Loveless knives, and the introduction of the Pro Hunters. I couldn't find much info on it. If anyone knows how many were made or other info about it, I'd appreciate it.

Good eye Doug. The 2 in back on the right are both 707UH's. One with Staglon the other has an unspecified wood (probably a rosewood species). See them here in my photo collection.

I have some questions about the Schrade Trail of Tears fixed blade knife. What I have found on the internet has not been verified to my satisfaction. Did GEC make the knife for Talyor LLC. The tang stamp is the same as the autos they made for Tayor but that isn't verification. The bottom line on the pile side tang stamp is C.D. DESIGN. Does anyone know what or who that refers to? What year was the knife made? Any info at all would be appreciated.
