Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Just throwing out an idea and figured this is one of the best place to start.  I'm thinking of forming a group to discuss fishing.  I'm think everything from sharing fishing stories, advice on gear, etc.   Of course  a good chunk would also focus on collecting vintage tackle and knives as well as what you use when you go fishing today.  Would people be interested in such a group?

yes,  this is when my dad first started trusting me with my first knife and using it to filet a fish. rapala 6in filet knife and 5 blue-gill and 1 bass. my dad was a butcher and knives were a part of his everyday life.

Would be a great place to display our latest catch, and not just fish! We could show off new reels, and lures. I collected vintage lures and reels for years. The forum should go over well.
I like fishing and don't do it enough because I'm mostly playing with knives and Bayonets. That's no excuse I know. I guess I fish for bayonets on EBay lately. I caught a mint m-4 Camillus and today I caught a mint M-4 Case. My PayPal acc.says I have my limit for a week or so.:(
I have been an avid cat and flathead fisherman for many years now. You never stop learning. To think you know it all is just proposperous. Have yet to get a line wet once this year and I am afraid I may have missed the first big spawn of the spring. One of the best times of year to catch some big fish. One reason I have yet to go fishing this year is that I have lost my fishing buddy of many years. My youngest son Brian (36 yrs. young). After Brian recent divorce just a few months ago he wasted no time in finding him a new girl friend (for all I know they have already married). This 26 yr. old mother of three. Has done all she can do to drive a wedge between Brian's mother and myself. Brian who has two girls of his own (my grand daughters). He currently has guardianship over them but has left to move to the Ozarks where her family is, and has left my sweet grand daughters here (Olathe, KS) our current home town. With their mother (his ex). First he said it was just for a week. Well a week has turned into a month and now he says he wants the girls to stay with her and go to school her. Up until meeting this new girl (that being nice). He was being a wonderful father. So back to fishing. You all get the picture. I intend on getting my license soon and hitting Olathe Lake located not far at all from my house here in Olathe, KS. The lake does have flat heads exceeding 100 lbs plus. 40 to 50 pound flats are not uncommon at all. There is also a healthy population of catfish in this lake along with many other species. Unfortunately turtles is one of them. I am constantly battling these pesky bait robbers. Anyways I fish with 2 poles one for catfish and the other rigged for flathead. All last summer Brian and I fished this same way looking to hook that 50 plus pound 1 or close to it. I only caught two flat heads one around 3 lbs and the other close to 8 lbs. Unfortunately Brian got skunked for flatheads. Not catching a one of them. We were still learning to fish the right spots always asking others for advice since they had more experience fishing this particular lake. For instance one fisherman showed us a video of a 50 pound flat head he had caught earlier in the year on his cell phone. Then was kind enough to show us the spot where and give us some tips of his own. Well sure enough that night I pulled in the 8 lb. flat head in that spot that same night after the guy gave up the spot and went home. Sadly I will be out there by myself making landing these big ones that much harder. I prefer to catch and release but I may have to use a had hook to get this size cat up out of the water without loosing them. Of course I have my favorite old knives that I use for part of my tackle. One an assisted opening Kershaw that I have now owned for around 2 yrs now. The other being the trusty old leather-man that I have owned for around 9 yrs now. Need to get a reasonably priced filet knife not to cheap but not to expensive either, any ideas on one friends? Olathe lake is suppose to close at 12 o'clock midnight, but if you are being very quite and not trashing your fishing spot the rangers/local police will let you fish all night if you wish. Its a non-alcohol park. So since I do not drink any more this is just fine with me. Keeps a lot of  the ya-hews away. With that loud music blaring. Will keep you posted on my luck this year. Oh P.S. since I will be alone you better bet I will be carrying one of my many of my fixed blade knifes on me. Gives me a reason to break them out. Hope to never have to use one, but I would not hesitate if I am threatened by anyone. Talk later. Don in Olathe, KS.

SOUNDS GOOD  .  JUST GOT A NEW ROD . RHINO " SUPPOSEDLY " INDESTRUCTIBLE TIP . I BOUGHT A NEW ONE LAST YEAR , THE WIFE CLOSED THE CAR DOOR ON IT 20 MINUTES LATER . WHAT I GET FOR NOT BREAKING IT DOWN !!!

I did the same thing to a new fly rod , before a Smoky Mountain vacation.

I'm inspired by all the positive responses but I can tell you that it is not easy to keep a group thriving.  Even groups with 100+ members can stagnate and grow stale. This is why I want to make the category anything related to fishing, Collecting, going, reviewing products, etc.  But even that isn't enough.  The key is participation and recruitment.   Is everyone who replied so far willing to invite a friend or two also join the group if it gets formed?

Go for it! There are tons of nautical knives for us to talk about. Plus think about all of those awesome stories about the one that got away.

this idea apeals to me, As I have kind of lost interest in anything lately, except fishing and staying alive. Hopefully I have had my last procedure and am cured. Think fishing won't interfear with all these electonic devices in me now. Fishing has been a way of life for our past family, I have the recepie for a powerfull medication that goes into stink bate. This stink bait was made in the depression and put into old surp buckets, with a splash of the medication, was guaenteeded to catch catfish.

Any way to make a long story short, just spent a hundred on a  new Fenwick and had a new 65oo Garcia upgraded, so guess you could say, I'm ready, look out lake michiagan, plus forgot to mention I just aquared a Eye brand 4 1/2" sod buster with a fish scaler , and it is Vintage, LOL garaage sale find for a dollar

on a side note:

There’s lots of fun to be had this weekend in Michigan as no fishing licenses are needed for residents and non-residents! This Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 make up the 2015 Summer Free Fishing Weekend, an annual effort to promote Michigan’s numerous fishing opportunities.

WELL FOLKS LOOK LIKE TOBIAS WILL BE STARTING A NEW GROUP.  YA'LL BE SURE TO POST IT UP IN

GONE FISHING !!!

Sounds good . I enjoy fishing quite a bit , both fresh water and I enjoy surfcast fishing in salt water . I fish mainly in the New England area. Most of my fresh water fishing is from my canoe in Vermont......TAKE CARE ROGER
