Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

When GEC made these (2011) I recall thinking I didn't need one.  Now I think how neat they are and how I never see them for sale or on any forums.  Did any of you folks pick one or more up?  They were made in bocote & snakewood with diamond shaped inlays of abalone or ivory.  Pics if you have them.

Hey Bass,

I got one of each. I think that I may have some pics of them in my photo albums on iKC (but I need to verify this and if I have pics they are likely kind of poor ones taken with my phone). I quit collecting GEC's a few years back and have tried my hand at making knives myself. I miss collecting GEC's but for me the joy of collecting was somewhat short lived. Once I bought a new knife and got it in the mail the joy faded a bit until I got my next knife. When you're making them it takes a bit longer and there is satisfaction (and often heartache and frustration) at each step of the way. But I've learned so much doing it myself. I do miss collecting GEC's especially some of the more special ones but the hobby has changed too. It seems that the dealers are buying up many of them to re-sell at higher prices and to me that is an unattractive side of the hobby and not the way it should be! Getting off my soap box now....

I can sure appreciate that.  I'm kinda there myself.  Not looking to get ride of any of mine, but my collecting has been on hiatus for quite a while.  I've always had a fondness for the 53 & 54 frames though.   I passed over the subject ones and regret it.  The bocote versions are really nice in my opinion.  I'll look for your pics when time permits.

Hey Bass,

The picture of the two are in my first GEC album on the second page of albums overall. I have a group of 53's together on my table with a plaid gray tablecloth so its a bit hard to see right off the bat. I don't know how to link one of my album pics to this discussion or I would. I'm not as big of a fan of the 53's myself but really like the 54's. But I noticed that the 54's seem to get a little bit of blade wobble - possibly due to their design. But I still really like them though. My first GEC was a 54 with Tractor Green scales and since then I've added a couple more of them to my collection. I didn't really understand why GEC didn't make that pattern again much (if at all - I'm out of the loop on that stuff) but I'm guessing that it may have been too big of a knife for most folks to carry and blade wobble may have played into it too? I haven't gotten rid of any of mine but it may be time to thin the herd. I need a new roof and would like to get a fancy 72" grinder too. I can probably handle a leaky roof for awhile!!! Hahaha.....

We did not buy those either and yes there have been times I regretted it.  We have slowed down buying but have ended up with some very nice customs over the past couple of years

Jan,

I can't begin to hold a candle to all of the cool knives and swag that you and Donnie have gotten at the Rendezvous that you've been too and all of the friends made there too! I would've loved to have gone to at least one but during the time that I collected the most was also the time that my wife was going through her cancer treatment. She finished her treatment 3 yrs. ago and has been cancer free since then (knocking on wood)! I'll take that trade off though any day of the week! But I'd still like to make it up there some day!!! Maybe when the kids move out - IF the kids ever move out!!!

Best trade I have ever heard of!  LOL, maybe 5 years after they move out, that seems to be when their hands move out LOL
