i got my viper a few weeks ago (a ten )..  and have been using it a lot ( also hard labour) and i can say  WHAT A GREAT KNIFE !!

the steel and the g-10 and the way it is made... the shape and the fit.. the sharpening and the construction  SUPER !

Thanks John. From what I can tell, it is a quill or pen knife.  It appears to have had a tortoise (or possibly horn) handle, but it's pretty far gone.  It was heavily encrusted in sands welded together by iron oxide, so it was a bit of a surprise when a knife appeared.  Does the style provide any clues as to age or origin?  Thanks.  Dave

Thanks for the welcome! By signing up, I'm hoping to get some feedback to help identify a knife I found on an archaeological excavation in Alaska.  I believe the site to be the camp of shipwreck survivors in the early 19th century.  I'm still trying to work my way through the iKC website -- but is there a way to post a picture for comments?

You guys seem like a friendly bunch, and makes me want to take up knife collecting.  I inherited my dad's collection and need to dig it out of storage!

Thanks for the birthday wish. Had a good one, fried some fresh trout for dinner that a friend provided. Very good fare. OH, and also received a new buck wavy flag gentleman's knife from my daughter. I'll post a pic when I can get the time.

Ah, it was a good birthday, indeed.  This year I had to buy the birthday knife myself, but, y'know, I'm not complaining.  Glad we have these special occasions to use as excuses to buy another knife!  Take care, friend.

i know why you like the odino john......  its danish design !!

i can only tell that viper has a good name for years  ( real gentlemans knives)

i like the "ten" a lot ...  the odino looks a bit to broadbladed for its length for my personal taste  but its their topmodel so .....

dont know why but i like some italian knives ( lionseel , steel will, viper ) more and more  ( well made !! ).....  better than the new buck 547  i got  !!  i can tell you that !  ( dull , not centered , crab screws and waddling blade )

John,

Thanks for the welcome... I'm glad I found this site and am feeling a bit overwhelmed....

So, I'll lurk for a while and get oriented.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.
