DLKG,

I had to laugh at the "research" comment.  I have 4 books on a table by my desk for research and yes I am always all over the internet taking a look.  Of course it is research and buying the knife helps me know it better so that muct be the knowledge that comes from research...right?

The vast majority of us here have more knives than we'll ever use, & certainly more knives than we'll ever need.  The killer is that few of us here will ever have anywhere near all the knives we could want.  Unfortunately I've spent far too many hours searching for the "perfect" knife for whatever situation I've concocted in my head, & far too many dollars acquiring some of them.

I obsess over some knives, & I acquire many (but not nearly all) of the knives I obsess over.  I can think of several from many years past just off the top of my head that I failed (failed!) to acquire. There was the Benchmade Mangus butterfly knife (I loved the blade style, a drop point butterfly with synthetic scales)...  And the Uzi Heavy Defender (the one with the urban camo pattern, as featured in the movie "Doom," (starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) & on the cover of Tactical Knives around the time Doom was out in the theaters -- I finally picked up a plain version of the knife, but the one I obsessed over was the one with the camo pattern).  And the CAS Hanwei Tactical Wakizashi (United Cutlery put one out that seemed similar, but c'mon, it's a BudK-exclusive brand, I'd feel like a mall ninja every time I held it)...  And these are just a few of the ones that got away.

In a certain way, it feels as if I have developed some sort of bond with these blades, especially the ones I obsess over.  I'm often conflicted when it comes to my knife addiction, knowing the money could go elsewhere (kids' college funds).

There must be a lot of us knife addicts out there, because it's us keeping knife retailers -- actually, the entire knife industry -- afloat.  Weirdly, I've met very few others, and absolutely none with deep pockets.  But somehow companies like ZT & Benchmade exist, companies that have few if any knives that the average, non-knife-obsessed person would buy simply due to their price points.  I'm not saying they're bilking us, just that the average person wouldn't think of dropping $100-$200 or more on a pocket knife, much less several of them.

Knife addiction is real, & so is shopping addiction.  I've spent countless hours online shopping for knives (I like to call it research, but we all know what this time really is about).  And I wouldn't be the first person I've known to get into a financially tight situation because of a knife purchase...

Haha! One of the symptoms: "knife sweats"--too funny. (And Blade HQ is one of our dealers!) Thumbs up!

I spent 26 or so years working with various substance abusers, most of whose addictions lead to felony convictions. From time to time, I would attempt to "lighten up" the aggravation of their circumstances, like showing the Chris Rock video, "What Not To Do When Stopped By The Police" during group just before the Christmas break. Wish I had this one back in the day.

It does apply to me, however. Still addicted to myself, too.
