Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Ok, I'm new to this, but I just wanted to throw this out. I have this rule I try to follow: never buy a knife simply to collect. In other words, I only procure knives I like, only knives I would want to carry and use. That's the fun of it, at least for me. As a result, I cannot keep my hands off of the knives I purchase; so it is difficult for me to have any knives that are considered mint. Every knife is a candidate for use. But as it so happens, I've acquired many knives (200 or so) and there are some I most likely won't get around to using, but I'm going to try. I recently purchased a gorgeous Elk GEC Pioneer prototype, and it is in my pocket. It's a sickness, I know :)  Do any of you share this same illness? Just curious.  Gary T

Yes, I have it badly, I never did a full count of my GECs, but all get used, except for one, but it's on it's way into my pocket any day now. I try to test as many patterns as possible, I am way behind, but I am getting there. GEC has me in the red because they continue to bring new patterns out, but I will never cease to try. I love using my knives, it's the best way to really get a feel for a company and to really connect. I am at GEC's mercy and they are not letting up with their patterns.

So far, which pattern has been your favorite EDC?

I like a lot, but I suppose the single blade Scout (#73) would be my favorite. I have a genuine stag scout that is just about the perfect knife for me. I also love the mini-lockback with the Wharncliffe; it's a close call.

I'm right there with you, my #73L is my precious. I love that knife, it's gone the most miles and done the most work. I continue to try the other patterns trying to get a perfect pocket knife, but it hasn't happened yet. I will try to post a pic of my favorite EDCs.

My sentiments exactly.  That's why I've never been to keen on etchings on the blade.

It is all a wicked sickness Gary.  We buy some to use, some to collect.  Some are bought to collect and then Donnie cant keep his off them so they are used.  Then we buy some to use and I see them and say NO, I will buy you another one but that one is too pretty to use.  It truly is a wonderful illness!

i suffer the same illness, ive saved alot of used knives from people.some of them are my favorites.i have habit of buying two of the same knife, one to use and one just in case.

Johnny I do the same as my GEC knives are growing i too use them all but 1 and its 1 from their open house from 2006.My favorite is the 73L but I also like the 72 stag.case needs to watch out as gec has the best stag and knives built in a factory imo

I buy some knives to collect and some to use, it is hard not to use one you just got and really like. I find if you put it away for a few days the fever will leave and you can collect it without use. You must remember if you collect it, in it's unuesd state, it will hold it's value and may increase with time. A very good investment on some knives.

Ron,

Your not alone, we are hoarders also :)

Ron, it's in your blood. I first started collecting "Rocks" then "Baseball Cards" then "Base Ball Stamps" then "Coins" and then "Knives". Since then I started collecting old bottles that I find in the swamp. It's in the blood! If you are a collector, you will collect almost anything. Good luck, with your affliction, "we all love it so".....lol

I used to put everything away. I had one EDC, I know, I can't believe it either. Everything I ever got, I put in a box. I have done a complete 180 and now I use everything I get. I'm more connected to a knife, to a company and to this place when I put my knives to good use. I see what they can do and I want to sing their praises. I want my friends to know they are more than just a pretty face.

I love my GEC knives!!!

A good used knife just looks better.
