August 22, 2021 kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  Covid and all.

Went to the knife store in Maggie Valley and the owner was quick to tell me to let him get any knife I wanted to see, out of the case.  After some conversation, he told me the reason was just what Jan indicated.  He told me a story of a fellow that has cut his finger and asked him what he was going to do about it.   He said he gave him a bandaid and told him to have a nice day

In looking for a new home to park a new thread I want to start, I decided that leveraging this group's introduction of "Just a bunch of knife collectors having fun" is as good a place as any.

I hope you enjoy it. And if someone thinks it belongs in a different group - just let me know. We'll figure something out. I know who owns iKC!  :-)

Good point Jan, I'll have to remember that. When I made the same observation to Beth regarding the lack of knives and other "Man-stuff", she pointed out that Salado was really geared towards the lady shopper - the weekday day-trippers from Austin.

All became clear then.  :-)

Still - good times

Lars,

Donnie and I do the flea Market pretty regular, or do now that covid is letting us get a little of our lives back anyway. Our buddy has a large section of the local market as well as an antique store downtown, he does estate sales. He keeps the knives in glass cases because of the danger someone may sue for getting cut handling a knife. Just typing that sentence seems silly LOL. Anyway that is why you see so few of them out at those stores.  Ask, they may have a tray below the counter. Good find on an old hickory though, good steel in those

Hi Joseph - Just joined the group and I see no one has posted anything yet...Hmmmm. What is your vision for this group?

Based on the title alone, I see it as place to come, have a great cup of coffee, and shoot the breeze - as if we all met at the local coffee shop on a Saturday morning.

My wife and I love to shop around at flea markets and antique malls. For her birthday this last July, I took her to Salado, Texas, for a weekend of just that. It's a great historical destination town filled with antique malls, glass blowers, pottery shops, a winery, a brewery, and LOTS of good eating places.

I share this because of the title of the group - Forgotten past times. For the first time, Beth & I were keenly aware that when we were younger, we would shop at flea markets and antique malls and ask "I wonder what that was used for?" ....and now we are the ones answering other's who are asking that same question! We felt so smug (and old!)

And would you believe it? Out of the dozens of shops and booths we visited, I only found one knife - an Ontario Old Hickory 12" butcher's knife. Ton's of that opaque white with blue flowers Corning ware from the 70's though....but not one knife to drool over. I found it hard to believe that with all those antiques, there was not the usual knife fodder seen in the cases.

Oh well - good times!
