Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I put a new set of handles on this almost 40 years ago.
A little bit of polish was applied to brighten up the brass and steel a little bit.

If anyone happens to know anything about this style of knife, can you please share it with me? I am having a very hard time finding a sheath knife with a straight spine and the quillon and pommel having this configuration.

The sheath is black and has a rearing horse stamped on the front.

Thank you!

Well I am not sure if yours is an older or newer variation, but you definitely have a vintage Colt Olsen knife and sheath! Sweet!

Good evening Lars!

The sheath for this is essentially identical to that one.   BUT  The sheath is not nearly as curved on the spine side of the blade, because the blade of the knife is straight.

I have not done anything at all to the sheath in terms of cleaning, or well... anything.  So the brass snap is still pretty tarnished.

The blade length is right at 4", whereas the overall length is approximately 8 5/8".

When I was trying to find anything on this knife, I found all sorts of references to the blades that had the upswept blade.  But nothing at all for a blade that was straight.

I do not see anything anywhere that might specify a model number.

Oh man....now that is pretty all cleaned up.

So....does you sheath happen to look the one in this photo? I lifted this photo from the internet for reference. If so, what you have is a vintage Colt Olson hunting knife. The one I am showing is a 1971 variation. It's a Colt #U1110 fixed blade knife that was manufactured by the Olsen Knife Company (Olsen OK) in Howard City, Michigan. It was known as the large "All Purpose" knife or "General Purpose" knife and has a 5 1/2 inch blade. This model was one of a group of three slightly different knives made by Olsen for Colt and cataloged for about three years in the early 1970's.

Hope this helps!
