Ok so we all know that you favorite rescue knife can cut your seatbelt...we've seen it all before. But what you don't get to see a lot of is the glass breaker in action. Why is that? Well simple you don't want to break your window. And it is not nice to break you neighbors window (as much as you might want to). Well simple you don't want to break your window. And it is not nice to break you neighbors window (as much as you might want to). Windows, while easy to pick up at a junk yard, are messy to clean up and you only get one shot where seat belt can be cut several times.
Well fear not friends I have spent the time (and money) to bring you a video show just what happens when you take a rescue knife glass breaker to a car window.
A few notes to consider before watching:
The window are out of the car doors. There were only two advantages to keeping then in the car (that I can find). A-Making the window easier to break by keeping it more rigid. Also the glass be more contained. As you can tell in the video the glass went everywhere.

We were testing the Choate 'The Emergency Car Tool' and the Spyderco Rescue Assist. The Choate runs $20 and well to be honost...is not that great. The Spyderco is aroud $100 is a amazing! The video tells all.

And I was trying to be as safe as possible. I did have on gloves and was wearing safety glasses (which you never see because they look AWFUL on me) But I still got cut. And yes long sleeves would have helped. But really do you get in you car and think 'I may have to break my way out of my car today...I'll wear long sleeves' Probably not.

Enjoy the video,
Godspeed Y'All
Hello Friends!
Just this past week the NRA annual meeting was in town. We weren't going to go as guns are aren't high on the list right now. But we found out that CRKT was going so we decided to go.
Boy, I am I glad we did. After finding out that SEVERAL knife makers were going to be there we were really excited to go. And what made it even more exciting for me was the day before we were going I got my prize money form the 'My Favorite Knife' video contest.
So with money in hand I was determined to get a REALLY AWESOME knife with the prize money (and a Fulcrum Flame but that was already accounted for in the budget)
Now I will spare you the details of getting into the show (like the fact that I am now a member of the NRA and I'm not sure how I feel about that) but once there it was sensational! There were ALOT really neat things to see. Guns and Knives and gear and flash lights (and 15 cowboy hats...I counted)
So we went and found all of the knife makers and had a good look at what they had and what Kind of discount they were offering. (CRKT had 50% off MSRP!!!! Score on the Fulcrum Flame!) .
We were about half way trough the list of knife makers when we came to the Ka-bar table. Now I have never been a huge fan of Ka-bar. They have yet to have a knife that SCREAMS 'Buy me' (or at least that I could hear). But there on their table was what looked like a camo knife. But on closer inspection I discovered it was SKULLS!! Now skulls are a weak point for me. Clothes, shoes, belt buckles, knives, you name it ...if it has skulls on it the cool level just went up..way up.
There were two of these knifes...one in a Desert tan and one in ACU (you know the new digital camo...green but not really green). I had to ask about these knife. Yes those were skulls, yes they were for sale, no this is not a new product...they are one of kind made special for Ka-Bar and are the only two in existence. WAIT!!! Hold the phone! (that was my internal monolog) The only two! On a awesome scale of 1-10 the BK2 is some where at a 6 or 7 for me...the skulls made it a 10 (only has to be a 7 to buy with out thinking) Being one of a kind put it some where in the 15 range. The only thing that could kill it was the price. I was guessing around $250 (good bye fulcrum flame)...I was wrong...

...$125 (SCORE!!)

I will admit I ALMOST bought it right then and there. But Ken is the voice of reason...we had to check out other booths to make sure we didn't find something else. (stupid reason). It was the longest, hardest, 30 mins of my day. Other stands had cool knifes...ones that I would someday buy but nothing was going to compare to the BK2. By the time we hit the Kershaw booth Ken knew nothing was going to top the Ka-Bar knife. (we still at least 3 booths to look at) He of course used that to his advantage...'You can go buy the Ka-Bar now, if I can buy the speck-bump' DONE! Of course I had to wait while he got the speck bump...he didn't want to lose me in the crowd. (what am I...6?) 5 agonizing minutes later we were on our way back to the Ka-Bar table.
I was literally jumping up and down at the table while the sales people ran the transaction and boxed up the knife. I had it! An awesome knife...with skulls...that was one of a kind...and it was MINE...all mine!!!

The rest of the day went with out incident. I was able to get the Fulcrum Flame. (and there was still money left over!!! that of course is going to my new phone..when I get it...but that another story for anther day) Ken got his speck-bump and a CRKT Folding Hissatsu, Dan was able to get a CRKT Turtle. We saw lot of neat things...I found the next work flashlight I'm going to buy, picked up a lot of cards and catalogs. Now my to get list is longer then ever. But all and all I would call the day a WIN...no I would call it an EPIC WIN!!!!

Check it out, there are more picture on my page.
Here's something I was thinking about the other day.

A couple of the actors and crew go jogging to help/stay in shape. Well thank you to the intense Az heat they have started running after the show. Which is 11 or so at night.

Now because of the way my mind works...my question to myself (and out loud) was if there was a knife made for self protection that one could carry while jogging...or biking...or something sport-y like that.
Now because of the way my mind works...my question to myself (and out loud) was if there was a knife made for self protection that one could carry while jogging...or biking...or something sport-y like that.

So I asked MY resident Knife expert (Ken) if they made such a thing. The closest thing he could come up with was a neck knife. I suppose there are the those K-Bar knives that are supposed to go on your ankle...but I'm not sure I would want to run with that on.

I got thinking about it...Some one needs to come up with a fixed blade knife that a runner could put on there arm while running. They put there iPod and heart meters there why not a knife.

Is there a market for something like that you think? With Great knowledge comes....Alot of extra work.tag:iknifecollector.com,2009-05-06:3181080:BlogPost:77612009-05-06T23:30:00.000ZAlly Burnhamhttps://iknifecollector.com/profile/AllyBurnham
I work at a Dinner Theatre and my postion is such that if anything breaks during the run of a show I am the go to person to fix it. Now we have shop people and props people and so on the fix something major the next day but if it needs to be fixed RIGHT NOW its all mine. This is my job and I am ok with it.

The one thing I have noticed lately is as the 'resident knife expert' I end up fixing things that are not my department.

For example...the wardrobe manager just brought me the dagger and sheath that one of our actors where (he plays Thuy...were doing Miss Saigon). She informed me that it no longer fits on his belt and she was at a loss as to what is wrong with it. Long story short... the clip in the sheath had been bent and all it needed was to be bent back. A pretty easy fix.

I also seem to be the go to person for a knife or a tool. I carry with me any time at least one type of knife and a multi-tool. You'd be surprized ( or not) how often some one needs one. Boxes to open, screws to tighten, do something with pilers, even cans opened.

It also surprized me how every one assumes that I can also be the 'resident gun expert'. While its true I know how to clean the blank guns we have and once in a while figure out what is wrong with them, I don't really have a clue. People are funny that way.

So the point?

Is my job unique in this type of thing or does it happen to everyone?

Just wondering
I was just (trying) watching a knife review buy NUTNFANCY (nothing against him he has great reviews...its just something about his voice...of course I hate my voice as well...NOT THE POINT)
And he was talking about how he was sorry for the women who were 'knife widows' (my term not his) because Bencahmade had just come out with some new stuff.

I get comments all the time "I wish my wife/girlfriend/daughter was as into knives as you are"
I get comments all the time "I wish my wife/girlfriend/daughter was as into knives as you are"

And its sad when a couple can't share the same interests but we have to be our selfs. Those guys like knives (guns/gear) and their other half likes something else (shoes?).

It makes me stop and wonder...how many guys have tired to get their other half into their hobby? Not force it on them but get them involved? If you go to a knife show do you ask you wife to come along? Not if she wants to but if she will.

I have hobbies that Ken will never be into (photography) but I still invite him, in fact encourage him to come along with me when I go.

Perhaps that is all it would take for your wife to stop giving you the evil eye every time you talk about knives...and who knows maybe someday she might even own one.
