Contest #4. We have a Wiener....errrrr.....uhhhhhh.....WINNER!!!!!

We are almost at the end of the week long Contest #4, this contest has been a lot more difficult than I thought that it would be.  But I could tell you guys were really working at it trying to decipher the clues and make them help you get to the right answer.

I figured it would take people 3 or 4 answers to get to a winning answer.

We didn't attract as many people to the contest as I had hoped but I appreciate each of you joining in on the fun.

So, we will have some…

PRIZE For Contest #4

As I explained in the post about this contest (#4), the winner gets to make his/her choice between three knives.

  • A Craftsman Barlow.  You don't see a lot of them, this one looks like the 1960s or so, saw cut brown bone handles, blades have a nice patina.  The tang reads Craftsman
  • A cracked Ice white colored handles on a small (2 5/8") advertisement knife with an attached hole that could allow you to connect a chain and attach the knife to something.  This knife is…

Knife Contest #4: Win a FREE knife

Well the last contest seemed to zip by with Peter's nice win.  I had expected a more difficult time and a little longer contest.  I even had at least one Tip to give you guys.

You're just too knife knowledgeable.  There is always someone at iKC who can deduce the answer....which is good.  But it always seems more fun when they go for at least 3-44 days.  You guys get me laughing I'll tell ya.

So, we will move forward with Contest #4.

I think it will take a little longer,…

The NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Kentucky

I love Hot Rods maybe as much as I love knives.  And guns.  And motorcycles.....

Anyway each year on Father's Day is the big Hot Rod Reun ion in Bowling Green Kentucky.

There are a lot of Hot Rod Reunions, last year i went to the one down in Long Beach California.

I would love to go to this one, some nice cars for sure.  And since I could not go, then Byrd's photographsare…

Updated Knives in Cases and NEW KNIFE CONTEST!!!

You may remember my case full of Barlows and you may remember that the individual holders of that case were really too small for standard size Barlows and would not even partially hold the old Grand-Daddy Barlows.

So I did nove the Barlows into a new case and I will post those soon..  And I added a few G.D. (no I am not cussing) Barlows as well.

That gave me an empty case to fill up.  So the pics below are a mixture of things.

The first photo is an entire row of…

Two (New) Old Sheffield Stags

I received two beautiful old Sheffield (I think) stags today.

You can see one is a foldingg knife and the other is a very large Bowie or hunting knife (?)  I'm not sure.  I bought these from a guy on All About Pocket Knives (AAPK).  I have bought a few knives from him over the last two years and I always print out info when I buy them but I can't find it today.  And he always sends printed info when he ships a knife, but not this time.

And what do you know....the Bowie or…

My Barlows All Pretty In a Box

I finally put my Barlows in a Box.  I don't really like the box for these knives, I think I will swap out those smaller Coca-Cola knives and find something else for the Barlows, but it's better than throwing them in a cardboard box.

On the left side are various makers including Case, Boker, Maherr & Grosh and others.

On the right are my antique Russells.  All are 1800s.  I have a few more that I need to dig up that are 1920-30 Russells.

I also have a few…

A Couple of Old SheffieldPocket Knives

Today I have two very old Sheffield pocket knives for you.

The gentleman I bought them for thought for a long time that the larger knife was an old British Navy knife.  Now he thinks it may be a pruner.

Could be.  If you remember my post about how confusing these and even Hawkbills can be when the beak has been worn a bit.

To me it does look like a Navy knife, made to get wet and cut rope.…

Two Barlows And An Electricians

Don't think I showed these before....especially not the Primble barlow.

The electricians above is from the 1920s.  I spoke to the VP of the company in New Jersey.  He said his grandfather had them made for their employees as…

Relationships and Collecting

Well, my girl is upset with me.  Again.

She says I love my pocketknives more than I love her.  So I told her that's not true and I told her she has a sweet body....just like that antique coke bottle form knife that I bought 3 weeks ago.

She seemed a bit more peturbed, so I tried to get the subject off of knives since that seems to be her problem area!

So I told her I love her nearly as much as my favorite old 1911 handgun.

How come I have to sleep on the couch if…

A Case Tested XX, a Robeson Sure Edge and a Ka-Bar

An interesting collection of blades I received today.

The Ka-Bar fish knife is near mint.  Almost pristine.  The sweet yellow handles have no chips or damage.  Both blades look new as a baby's butt...never sharpened, no scratches, shiny as can be.  The Ka-Bar over Stainless tang stamp is from 1951-60, so nearly 60 years old.…

Diesel Truck at a Drag Strip in Tennessee

This is a Tommy Lee Byrd photo at the Paradise Show & Go.

A diesel truck that pulls the front wheels and runs deep in the 6s?  Way cool for me....

U.S. Coast Guard "Navy" Knife

Here is another "Navy" knife, this time it is actually a USCG knife but is the same as those great old Navy knives.  Now I have a few USN, one USMC, one that someone suggested might be a US Army knife and this one...my very first Coast Guard knife.  Thank you to all of you Coast Guarders for your service!!

Napanoch Tool Kit Post #2

So this is the second post in the Napanoch Tool Kit Series.  Just too much for one post.

The knife holds the blade securely while also having the area to add the tools (one at a time) at the opposite end from the blade.

It works best to have the blade closed when you do this !!!

So you start with the knife tang that has the NAPANOCH over KNIFE…

Napanoch Tool Kit---The Real Deal

Well....the Napanoch tool kit made it to my house tonight.  Dang, that was fast huh??

This thing is sweet.

It is probably circa 1908 or so...anyway it is well over 100 years old!

The leather pounch is in great shape.  It folds and closes just fine with the two clips intact and working just fine!

As are the 7 little internal areas that hold the knife and tools.  Nothing is ripped or torn or mistreated at all.  This surprises the heck outta me!

So each tool…

Just wondering does anyone here buy knives frrom SharperDeals.net?

I guess it is an auction site.  I registered and I have looked around a number of times the last 6 months or so but never bid.

This time I found a couple of really nice blades so I'm just wondering if you guys have any history there??  Thanks!
