Yes, Mark.

The W-49 is quite large.. The W-47 is a much better fit as I see it...It's called the Small Bowie.. Not very many made like the W-49. I have sold several of the 49's in the past..Only have one left and I plan on keeping it.. It's a horse!!!!

I keep a lot of knifes for safe keeping but I like to use all my knifes when the situation arises. This bowie is a huge knife and I don't figure I'd would ever use it for anything except for showing my friends or getting it out to oil it and admire it. I'm thinking about selling it and getting a more practical knife, maybe a tactical folder.

I love the old Western Cutlery knives. I had about 125 of them at one time but have about sold out...I've hoarded a W-47 and W-49 in their orig. boxes.. I figure them to be about the same quality of the older Schrades, Boker, K-Bar etc.  All good companies.. There's a W-36-8 also. that was a service knife. It has stacked leather handles. and I like it too. It's hard to find. I keep one of those for safe keeping, if you know what I mean.

Mark, it looks to be either the W-47 or the W-49....They made very few of the W-47's It's in the $300 range and the W-49 (They call it the large bowie) usually is in the $125-$150 range.. It had to be made prior to 1990 because Western Cutlery  closed down in 1990. Some of their W-47's were lettered A through N. A's were made in 1977 and the N's were made in 1990  You might search for that on them. It just depends a lot on the condition of the knife. I see you have the orig. sheath..That is good. Hope to hear back from you!!

From my research I think this is the 3rd Variant of the Western brand Bowie, where the guard is marked WESTERN BOULDER / COLO. USA on one side and BOWIE on the other. I was wanting to know more about the knife, like what the steel is, it's approximate value and if it is made in the middle to late 70"s? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
