On Friday, September 9, 2011, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for ROUGH RIDER. The USPTO has given the ROUGH RIDER trademark serial number of 85418975. The current federal status of this trademark filing is CONTINUED USE AND INCONTESTIBILITY ACCEPTED. The correspondent listed for ROUGH RIDER is SUSAN B. FLOHR of BLANK ROME LLP, 1825 Eye Street NW, WASHINGTON, DC 20006 . The ROUGH RIDER trademark is filed in the category of Hand Tool Products . The description provided to the USPTO for ROUGH RIDER is Cutlery, namely pocket, hunting and collector's knives.

It does show SMKW as principle.  I do not see any trade mark mention of Rough Ryder Knives?

According to the Rough Ryder Facebook page, that was the original spelling of the name, though I've never seen it, and I took the "Rough Rider Challenge" a long time ago.

They've got a video out talking about hand built too... IDK about that.

Total makeover?

Marketing ploy?

Simple rebranding?

Perhaps someone with some inside information could shed some light.
