Now this is what i'm talking about...the REAL dirt on the piece. Now that didn't hurt, did it? :-D

Thanks for the scoop - I thought this was from the CS Commercial series, but I couldn't tell for sure. I haven't seen the red handled ones yet. Great...now I have to stop what I'm doing and go check them out. Wait here for a moment....

OK I'm back. I'm not finding the red handled versions (but I only went to the CS web site). They still show the black Scalper as being available for $32.99.

So you know I like using my various hunting knives and Bowies for BBQ & Sausage meat prep....from that perspective, do you think the Scalper is a decent piece, or just another kitchen knife?

Simple reply - not looking for a full blown review...If I get one, I'll do that!

Thanks man...and Happy New Year!

HA!  Okay, okay, Lars.  And it's been a long time since anyone said I was "a man of few words"!  :P

That said, I also just wrote an article-length response to your rely about the Cold Steel Drop Forged knives, so I'll just add what I can here.

This knife, the Cold Steel Scalper, had a 6.5" blade, made of 4116 Krupp steel I believe.  The blade is about 1/8" thick, & the tang extends most of the way, if not all the way back to the lanyard hole (I just don't recall off hand, & I don't have it in front of me at the moment to check).  It's got a flat grind & is almost 12" overall, but it's only 5.6 ounces.  Though it's part of their "Commercial Series," it comes with a sheath (some but not all knives in the commercial line come with sheaths).  And unlike the Drop Forged line, the handles on the Commercial Series are really comfortable & ergonomic.

The sheath is plastic, which is fine, but it REALLY needs a thumb ramp to push off against while drawing the knife (Moras often have these ramps, & they make all the the difference between needing one hand to withdraw the knife from the sheath or two hand).  I hope they add a thumb ramp to the sheath in future iterations.

And while this particular version of the scalper has been discontinued, Cold Steel now has the knife available with a red handle, claiming to be the design of bow hunter Tim Wells -- because Wells uses red handles on his knives, I guess...?  Anyway, I actually prefer the red handle to the plain black, & this version is on sale at MidwayUSA for just under $23 as of this writing (though it usually runs closer to $30).

I know you're a man of few words unless you have something to say, but I like learning new things....like "what is this one?", and "what are the spec's?", and the ever popular "who made it?"

Throw me a bone here dude...  :-D
