Has anyone had a shop doorway alarm set off by a knife in their pocket?

If the doorway in question used a metal detector and the knife was of sufficient weight and material certainly an alarm may go off. This sounds like something that happened Paul, fill us in on the particulars. What type of door alarm and what type of knife?

IF ... the door alarm in question is set up to detect a magnetic field (think wally-world)

SUCH AS ... those little magnetized security strips inside the packaging (that's why they degauz 'em)

AND ... the knife is magnetized

THEN ... it's possible

But I aint a clue on Don's door ?.!.?

RFID technology ... where there is the lil etched resonant circuit …  inherent in the tagging system itself … that responds (by resonance) to the RF energy emanating from the monitoring device

......or.......

.. is it those dull black thin strips (think strip of refrigerator magnet)  that requires the gatekeeper @ wally-world  to de-activate by de-gauzing.

Which system is under question ..  ?????????

AND ....... it taint magnets Don ............................................ you also caught  Trents pic "157793"

You are right about that, sometimes smallest thing sets them off and before you know it your headed for a pat down.

My door activates because of the metal detector in the garage door. just like the metal detector in the shop's door, the one in question. also the little strips that are in packages at wally world are transponders not magnets. and at hog if it were a good metal detector, makes no difference HOW big the metal thing is. I've had metal detectors go off because of the rivets in my levis........

dale has magnets on the mind today..... transponders work because of radio frequency's.

RF energy...now your speaking my language!

Don's absolutely correct .. The monitoring equip does NOT set up or generate a magnetic field ... that'd be as dangerous as transmitting microwave energy next to your brain (cell phone).

The equip I'm aware of .. simply responds to a change in the flux lines .... like when a small magnet is passed through / within it's sensory range .....

similar to .. but not the same as .... a simple metal detector. Now that pc of equip does set up it's own magnetic field & all the lil flux lines that go along w/ it .... in that application .... any "magnetic conductor" will affect the flux lines & set off the alarm ................................... pcs of 8 .. dig deep !!!!

they don't use magnetic fields because of the public's health reasons. heart monitors and such are sensitive to magnetic fields, that's why they arnt used.

if wally world had metal detector how come your keys does not make it go off? hummmm
