Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I think we need to get a jump on this, so those people who have to plan ahead to purchase one can do so.

Let us discuss and then lockdown a pattern/design, get it priced out and ordered. Buying a knife around the winter holidays is difficult for everyone.

My vote is for a jack/mtnman/barlow-esque pattern Large (or Medium)

Stag/Bone/Burl wood

One/two blades

I would prefer Carbon blades, but an exotic SS is fine.

Blind Horse Knives makes a very nice Fixed Blade Knife. They use a lot of G-10 or Micarta.

SS blade will always be my first choice and automatic would be nice.
I wasn't really impressed with the length on last years, rather had one 1 1/2 longer
But I'll support the groups choice........mike a.

I like your idea Warren.  That would make me happy.

The Queen Mountain Man Lock Back with D2 blade and Amber Bone scales sounds good to me. It is already a production knife, and should be less than $100. dollars. What do you think?                         Warren - "Lone Wolf".

I like the idea of the stag sodbuster.

I am still just throwing ideas out there guys.  What do you think of a stag sodbuster type?

This thread blew up after work. Cool. 2980 more members to go. But I am happy that the consensus so far is for a larger single blade pattern, especially the Queen lockback Mountainman. D2 blade steel is in my top 3.

Although any man that uses a blade repeatedly all day long knows the value of a good but "illegal" auto, an assisted opener would be practical, legal, and just a little more unique.  As a combination of the ideas I've read here, I vote for a burl or stag handle double lockback assisted opener (maybe brass bolsters) if someone who knows steel additives better than me will set a good mix that's not outlandishly expensive.  If we set the specs and ask several "good reputation" makers, all we should then need is a guaranteed number of sales.

Automatics are still ILLEGAL to carry in most States. With the exception of Law Enforcement officers and Active Duty Military. They are ILLEGAL to transport accross State Lines.

Passing on an idea from a member

How about an automatic? These have become more legally acceptable in the last few years.

The 1st knife (from AG Russell) was a wonderful choice. Compared with the 2nd and 3rd, it was more interesting per dollar. Get the group back that picked the 1st knife and let them choose. However, I promise to support whatever the Club choice.

Regardless, thank you.

I'm a huge fan of Quality. iKC has so so many High Quality members who are very helpful and informative in so many ways to each other. I personally feel that Price should'nt be a big Factor. I personally would rather pay 200 dollars for a knife that I'm proud to say is from my Favorite Knife community Something that I can appreciate for years to come. A nice#36 pattern would be my vote.

wihout even reaqding previous comments the time to talk about he 2013 knife is in 2011 IF YOU CAN...with helping other clubs get knives ready... TIME is your best of friends ... its just that simple.

MY VOTE FOR KNIFE.. Barlow,Redbone or but if could not get very rich ,deep redbone, then a brown bone,ROGERs JIG, ,IKC BOLSTERS.no shield{i normally love a shield but not on bolster with club name already deeply stamped into bolsters} IKC on bolster, since its a club knife, have it stamped upright when blades are shut on display and will be upright if displayed blades open. it would be a rectangle step down bolster!!~ or give up al this to have a custommaker make the knife..... you could go super basic 50$ fixrd blade.15$sheath to nmatch by same maker, micarta handles10$ more.have IKC/2013 on the tang!!!

RAMBLE RAMBLE RAMBLE I KNOW- BUT ALSO THE STEEL THT IT IS MADE OF MARKD ON BLADE SOMEHWERE...i still dont know why its on boxes and this and that...i have seen it,QUEEN and othr ...but all knies, simply just somehwee the steel makeup..why?...so i know how to harpen and what blade to take on what job!

ok..morning rant over,,,lolololol... LOVE YA IKC!!!

READ KNIFE BOOKS-THENN BUY KNIVES

AM NOW A PROUD MEMBER ON THE NKCA!!! ITS ABOUT TIME!!!....

RAMBLE!! regardless in the end club knives should not be the ones to cheap out on.although you can get a great fixed blade wih IKC etch for less then 100$ ,yes.BUT,it would be micarta,2 basic pins,no bolsters, etch would fade,ectect...

CLUB knives are suppose to reprsent {again IMO,please no attacks,opinions, but im not asking for knife war.,,,lol}

CLUB knives should be thebest of the best...look to the past with most roosters with A++ MOP and gold etchings ...brands with everything down to the paperwork and boxes and bags having their clubs name on it,bolsters that took special dyes to order...ectect..even a etched shield...if not on anything else..{tang stamops are the best but then taking $$$ ,to have just IKC?2013 on the tang...would be awesome}

im really just feeling this now...and im nobody..trust me... but i just feel that if i show someone my club knife..i want the knife without me saying anything to do the talking "WOW...LOOK AT THAT IKC KNIFE"..not .."oh,here comes that 50$ P*S they tossed together.these knives say volumes about the clubs .the ones still here and especially when gone.some club knivs i have are 1 0f 31...or 1 of 27...and they are horn, wioth MOP INLAYshield ,etchings on both sides...anyay im guessing you get what i mean.  ..when you have a club knife that folks even frgetwho made it for you and just call it "an awesome IKC knife" not an "awesome GEC knife made for IKC" ---YOU GOT SOMETHING!!!

i guess to represent your club ...even if you could only buy one 150+$ knife a year...it would be worth it.{once again this is why planning early is great, folks can save..its not that folks dont want it to be a sock knocker and not they dnt want it to be a great knife...but if given say a year ..put 15$ away a month..you got your club knife! and no shock.

OK I HAVE SAID WAY MORE THEN MY Peas...but i hope ya get it... and i mean no offense..im far from rich and am not saying klets get 8 knives only 6 of us can buy..LOLOOOLOLOL..... all i know is like is said "WOW LET ME SEE THAT...where do i join...or .."im good, i have seen 7 sitting on the bay!" i would prefer the first!

I COULD BE WAY OFFFFF!,,and just stupid..lololol

I would love to see a small fixed blade in one of the following steels: M4, 5160, D2, O1, or 1095. Maybe a drop point with a swedge. If a steel that can be differentially heat treated is choosen, a hamon line would be nice. I love stag, but that really bumps up the price. Jigged bone is nice, but maybe with an old school steel, a more modern handle material would be good - something like G-10.

There are many good points to consider here…

Automatics are nice; personally I find spring assisted openers an even better choice though personally as I carry a first release SOG Topo-Meridian every day. That being said though there is something about a good old fashion whittler pattern such as a Norfolk whittler (the one foremost on my mind was a Remington) with a simple jigged bone handle and a main blade that locks (I will find a picture and post it later).

On the fixed blade front...historically fixed blades have not been the top choice for club knives for a multitude of reasons yet no one specific reason to be found. I personally enjoy a good fixed blade and have fond memories of learning Mumblty peg with my Grandfather with a fixed blade kinfolks clip point and I never leave home without my Camillus MK II with custom added Eagle, Globe and Anchor from my the uniform I wore attached to the hilt.

Yet another area to consider though may be a straight razor or perhaps a piece of quality usable kitchen type cutlery...maybe like a cleaver, paring knife or chefs type knife or depending on the manufacture a santoku is a popular kitchen design. They can be found in Carbon steel, Stainless, ceramic, Damascus...well you all know the options.

And yet another option to consider might be a multi tool. With today’s "survival" climate a useful, well thought, versatile, rugged, dependable multi tool might be a spiffy thought.

As for the "Is it too soon" question, I don’t think so at all...In fact I know of two clubs that already have the annual club knife in production already.
