The National Knife Museum IS Moving...

The Officers, Directors, Staff, and Members of the NKCA, sincerely thank Smoky Mountain Knife Works / Kevin Pipes for giving our collection of cutlery a home these past seven years. As most of you know, we moved our oriignal Museum (built in 1981) from Chattanooga to Sevierville, TN, in November 2007 and it is now time to relocate to a different facility.

The Board of Directors may have found us an exciting new home, but we will not know all the details until a little later. Once permament arrangements have been made, the new location and the "Grand Opening" date will be announced.

Once again, we thank SMKW for all they have done to help promote the National Knife Museum and the hobby of knife collecting.

    Sincerely,

    Lisa Sebenick
    NKM Officer
    President

Got the email blast today announcing the new Club and Youth knives for the NKCA.  I like the pattern they chose.  I'm certainly going to get 1.  However, I have to say it seems unoriginal to keep putting Prater handles on every year for the last 5 years.  It was neat the first few times, but I wouldn't mind a more traditional material choice one of these years, like stag or pearl.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Vincent, is the current VCM/Bose knife that listed here nearly done?  I wanted to see what one looked like with the nice wood handles, and leather sheath.

  • Jan Carter

    Carl,

There are some showing as avail on Vincents page

  • Carl Bradshaw

Cool, I'll make up an image for the NKCA website.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Vincent, can you say how many of these recent Swaybacks where made?  I'd like to add the information to the image I'm creating for the NKCA website.  Thanks.

I received some news that saddened me this week.  The previous President of the NKCA, Perry Miller, passed away this week.

Among the many things Perry had done was serve in the USMC.  He had been a collector since he was a very young boy and Space Coast Cutlery in 2010 revived the Tuna Valley Cutlery name. Produced in a  limited run of 150 pieces, those treasures are destined  to become true collector pieces.  After leaving the NKCA he served as an appraiser for The Randall Collectors.  You will be missed my friend!

  • Clint Thompson

Maybe the alinement of the starts are getting me in a position where I can start attending some of these events.  Let us hope so.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Has anyone heard how President Lisa is doing?  I called to update my address with her so that my club/youth knife will get shipped to the correct address, and her voicemail said she was in an accident and won't be available for 1-2 weeks.  Her voicemail was full so I could not leave a message, and she isn't answering any emails.

  • Jan Carter

    Carl,

Lisa slipped and fell and ruptured the ligaments in her leg.  She had surgery a couple of weeks ago and is recovering.  8 weeks in the cast was the last I heard and then it will be therapy

  • Max McGruder

Sorry to hear that! Sure hope she gets on the mend and feels better soon!
  • Clint Thompson

Hopes and prayers are being sent her way.

  • Carl Bradshaw

I came across this one in an old NKCA magazine and had to show it off to everyone.  I'm going to add it to my website.  Simply amazing.

  • Ricky L McConnell

Neat knife Carl , I enjoyed that

  • Vincent C. Mazzei

I've been slowly collecting all the old NKCA magazines from 1977 thru 1997. There were a tremendous amount of quality articles and information in every issue.  I've scanned in all the covers, and included the table of contents for each magazine, and added it to my website.  Lots and lots of good info on everything knife related were in these magazines.  http://www.nkcayouth.com/magazine.html

  • Jan Carter

Carl you have done some magnificent work on that site.  I encourage you all to check it out

  • Carl Bradshaw

Thanks Jan, I appreciate the compliment

  • Mark Zalesky

Just wanted to say that I checked out Carl's website with the NKCA magazines the other day and he's done a super job of assembling and posting that material. A lot of wonderful articles appeared in the glory years of the National Knife Magazine and the cover images are a really nice touch. Great work!!

  • Jan Carter

Gus Marsh is going to selling his NKCA knives.  His focus has changed direction.  You can see them here

    http://nkcaknife.com/

  • Vance Parker

Although there was not a great deal of interest in fixed blade knives. The few they offered were really nice.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Yeah, the first one offered, 1989 Buck, was particularly eyecatching to me.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Does anyone know when the 2014 NKCA knives will be sent out?  And also if they are going to offer 2015 knives, or is the knife program over with?  I haven't had any luck contacting the NKCA to ask them.  I'm excited to get my knife, and to order the next year knife if possible.

  • vernon wayne perkins

Carl, I would like to know the, myself, I paid for my knife in August of 2014 to beat the deadline but found out later the deadline was moved twice which put off the order. Lisa does a great job with the club and we are very fortunate to have her. I think Prater is dragging his feet on a order this small. I also think the NKCA should concentrate on a yearly knife that is less expensive and more available.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Yep, I agree.  I ordered my knife in Feb 2014, so it's been 14 months waiting now.  I was told in Jan 2015 that they were still taking orders.   ? ? ?   (or waiting/hoping for more orders).   I agree about a simplified knife also.  There is nothing wrong with the Prater knives, they look very nice.  But it's been every knife made since 2010 (both club and youth).  I would like something different for a change, like just plain stag or jigged bone.  I'm sure it would help the price out as well for members.

  • Jan Carter

    Guys,

I forwarded this to Lisa.  I was not aware the 2014's have not been delivered.  I hope we get some answers for you

  • vernon wayne perkins

    Thanks Jan

heard that the NKCA is no longer an organization . How many Life Members are

on this forum .There's some hard core knife collectors with some story's to tell.

    NKCA # 2453

  • Jan Carter

Charles the NKCA is still an organization, Lisa was at the Blade Show and NKCA knives were auctioned at Tony Bose table.  I too am a life member

  • Craig M. Bozorth

    Dear NKCA members,

I believe that it is time for all NKCA members to call for a 'General' Election' of officers and 'BOD' members. Giving credit where credit is due for current members, it is now time to move on.I am not placing blame or 'throwing shade' at anybody for past performance. The past is over and done with but the future of the NKCA hangs in the balance. Fellow members, if you value this organization, please make yourself heard, as I am doing and start the 'wheels in motion' for a new president and 'BOD'. This can be accomplished by sending a letter to the NKCA or message on its Facebook page. Full disclosure; I am not a candidate for any NKCA office or position. I am, however, an NKCA Life Member who deeply regrets not speaking out during the 'Cargill' administration when there was still a chance to save the Chattanooga museum for posterity. NKCA members, elect a president and 'BOD' that will return the NKCA to a financially sound, respected and visible organization that its members can be proud of.

    Thank you

  • Carl Bradshaw

I've heard from other collectors that there is a lack of enthusiasm as far as getting a group of leaders willing to donate time and money and experience to run the NKCA.  I appreciate all the Lisa does, but it seems she's the only one doing anything for the organization.  There are a lot of loud complainers, but not many willing to step up and handle finances, bookkeeping, membership accounts, monthly updates, etc.

I did what I could.  I live too far away to meet with anyone in person, so I offered my services to help showcase all past Club & Youth knives on the NKCA website, along with their descriptions.  However, again, there is no one other than Lisa to handle that responsibility either.

  • vernon wayne perkins

I realize the NKCA has had some problems the last few years. I have been an active member for several years and I think Lisa has done a very good job trying to hold things together. My complaint is I paid for a 2014 club knife, $195.90 over a year ago and still have not received the knife. I would like to get the knife or get some communication about it.

  • Carl Bradshaw

The last info I had regarding the 2014 ordered knives was that in Jan 2015, the NKCA was still accepting orders to try and get a large enough quantity to have made.  Then recently, I heard that the knife we all ordered is going to be a combo knife representing both 2014 and 2015 together.  If that is the case, I would imagine we won't get the knife in hand until around Christmas time this year, perhaps later.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Can anyone provide any info regarding the NKCA knives that are to be shipped out.  I've called, emailed, texted, and Facebook messaged Lisa repeatedly for 3+ months without any contact back from her.  The voice message on her answering machine said that the combo 2014/2015 knives would be shipping out in October 2015.

I'm not trying to cause problems or complain, I just want some sort of update.  I would love to get my knife that I paid for 20 months ago, but if there is no knife to get, I would like a refund.

You would have best results in posting info and pictures about it in the "Knife Q&A With John McCain" section.  The more pictures the better when trying to determine what knives are. Here is a link to the section.
