Rep Weekend at SMKW went well. I got to talk to numerous people and even got to put a face with some of the IKC followers. Which is always nice to meet someone in person. I am currently working on a schedule for 2014 knives... any suggestions on patterns?

  • Bill Fletcher

As to new ideas for 2014, I'm very partial to single blade hawkbill and sheepfoot cotton sampler knives.  Queen Cutlery has produced many examples of both in the past; however, I know the special magic of the Tuna Valley Cutlery style would make for product with knockout demand.

  • Carl Bradshaw

I like the more unique patterns and handles.  That recent sowbelly with ivory was killer!  I'd like to see a pearl handle 2 blade toothpick with a fish scaler blade.  Or a big barlow with a razor blade with real abalone handles.

And again, I wanted to *hint hint* to submit a pearl baby doc pattern for the 2014 NKCA Youth knife.  That would be the prize of my collection.  :)

I collect fish knives so that two blade toothpick with a scaler blade that Carl mentioned would be a fish knife for my collection!

I just have to share this one.  While checking my regular haunts to see what is out there, I ran across a one of a kind beauty.

This Tuna Valley Swell Center Moose is a special knife.  Special because it's a PROTOTYPE, and in the Tuna Valley world just one PROTOTYPE is issued and Special because it comes from the Tuna Valley Co-Founder, David Mullins personal collection.  Production on the Tina Valley Proto's is limited to ONE!!!

    Just absolutely a beautiful knife!

  • Carl Bradshaw

Wow, thanks for posting that Jan, that is an awesome one.

  • Billy Oneale

OH Wow, SWEET! And that's all all I can say about that one.

Thanks for the pictures, very cool.

  • Ron Cooper

    Courtney,

Those pictures really made me appreciate just how labor intensive and delicate the work is that goes into making JUST ONE knife! It certainly puts price into its proper perspective.

    Thanks!

Courtney did a awesome job again!!...

  • Carl Bradshaw

Hi Courtney, I'm not sure if you have any say, but I wanted to urge you to get a Tuna Valley knife chosen for the NKCA Youth knife for 2015.  I really think they would be a huge hit with a production of 400 or less.  My personal choice would be a baby doc pattern in either mother-of-pearl or mastadon ivory.  I'm going to voice my opinion to NKCA Pres Lisa also.  :)

Hello, my name is Courtney Daniels and I am the proud owner of Tuna Valley Cutlery Company. I have been the owner for three years now, since 2012. Previously owned by Perry Miller who produced this line in 2010 by Great Eastern Cutlery. Then my husband Ryan Daniels and his father Ken Daniels produced a few runs in early 2012 before I took the line over. Since then I have taken the line over and the product has been produced solely by Queen Cutlery Company.
I've not always been into knives. I didn't grow up around them or go to the trade shows. I married into the knife industry when I met Ryan, my husband. At first, I tagged along with him to flea markets when we first met and watched him buy and trade. Then when we got married and started a family, that's when we started going to more knife and gun shows, which I sat back and just watched. The more I watched the more I began to know and pick up on. I was surprising myself when I was able to answer customers questions. How and why do I know this stuff? Before I knew it my husband and father-in-law where leaving me alone at the table so they could walk around. This meant I had to become more familiar with the product and pricing.
Once I took on the Tuna Valley line, I became even more interested in how the product was made. I started going to the Queen Cutlery factory and began learning different stations and steps in the production manufacturing process. I don't think a person realizes the varies steps and hands on with different people touching the knife multiple times before the knife is complete. After learning the process or taking a tour through the factory you look at a knife differently and have more respect for the final product.
My Tuna Valley line is a limited line. I currently come out in each pattern with: 50 Burnt Stag, 50 Amber Stag, 25 Buffalo Horn and then 25 Fluted Mammoth Ivory with Engraved Bolster. All are limited to this amount and will not be reproduced in that pattern ever again. They are made with 154 CM steel as well. The knife comes in a velvet black pouch inside a white tube with a certificate that has the release date of that pattern and a signature by me.
Be sure to like my page for future news, releases, & my new journal that will document my apprenticeship at the factory

I've been working on my knife photography skills, combined with basic Adobe Photoshop adjustments.  What better practice than on my new Tuna Valley knife!  I think this one turned out pretty well.

  • Jan Carter

that did come out well Carl!  Congrats on the new Tuna, they are one heck of a knife!

  • Jamie Rank

    Hi Carl,

Your Tuna Valley picture came out Fantastic!!!  Good Job!

    They are fantastic knives!

  • Clint Thompson

Carl you have a great knife and good choice. Good photo.

  • Paul Gockley

    Very nice stag indeed!

  • Carl Bradshaw

Christmas gift this year, I'm very happy with this one!  2014 Tuna Valley Fish Scaler in Buffalo Horn.

  • jeff

Carl , that is a beaut ! I ordered one from Santa, but I don't think that I passed the nice/naughty test.. :-{ Really Nice, Congrats !

  • Jan Carter

Goodness that IS a beauty Carl!  Congrats!  Jeff, maybe Santa and the Valentines Cupid can team up for it soon :)

  • jeff

lol @ Jan.. Carl... I really like the shape of that blade,,it would double as a Skinner during hunting season. Again.. Really Nice ! Does it have a sheath? That horn slab great.

  • Carl Bradshaw

Thanks guys. I'm certainly blessed with so much loving family, all within 5 miles of my house.  Jeff, no it doesn't come with a sheath, just a black velvet pouch.  I'm sure would carry just dandy in a nice custom leather sheath.  ;)

  • jeff

I agree ! I myself, would almost be inclined to carry in a fixed blade sheath,so as to keep grime and fish parts from collecting and then having to open before cleaning.. but having not thought it thru.. might or might not be a good idea... but worth thinking about. You have a real beaut there and congrats again Carl.

  • jeff

Then again.. it would probably go into my collection and never see use..;-} I really like that knife ! as you can tell, I am sure..lol

  • Carl Bradshaw

Haha, yeah, I like it quite a bit myself.  It may get a little pocket time every so often, to take to parties or church.  I doubt this one will see much use, it's too pretty to grime up.

  • Clint Thompson

Great looking knife Carl. I love the design. This knife was made to be used..and used....and used, then passed down to the next generation. Enjoy the knife and resist the desire to store it away. I have way too many I have stored away.
