i wonder how many of us still have their very first pocketknife..... i do !!
about ten years ago i sold 90% of my collection and only kept the emotional pieces and specials and this is one of them !
i got this knife from my father when i was 10 years old !
he told me to be careful with it and never use it as a weapon....ofcourse i cut myself wihin a day and my mum went crazy and daddy only looked at me and shook his head..... i loved that man
i know you all call this a sodbuster but the original german name is hippekniep.... in holland ( the Netherlands) where i come from we call this "boerenmes" which means farmersknife
this is an Original richard abraham herder made in solingen and its still sharp and the spring is 100% ok
Great photograph! Beautiful knife, sporting a wonderful patina. I love the aged look of that wooden handle and the way that birdseye pivot pin sits like a crown atop this splendid old knife.
Cool knife and a wonderful backstory on this treasured piece. And, like Michael, I really like that old box, also! It begs the question; "What treasures hide inside of it?"
hahaha i love you guys !! the box belonged to my grandmother and ibelieve it was made in Belgium my father kept his cufflinks in it as i recall it is a heavy little money box from around 1900-1920 the pic also shows my dads pontiac watch that he wore in the 60's
OK, I am going to say I like the box also but the knife, with the story is just awesome. Herder made a good many knives and a lot of them are still around but this particular model was not a big hit in the US and therefor for us it is a bit rare!
Here is an old Herder of mine, if you'll permit the intrusion...
Constant ~ Friedr. Herder A. SN. ~ 4" Closed, Single Blade ~ Made in Solingen Germany
It's just a very solid, no frills knife that will effectively handle just about any task you could throw at it. I love the simplicity of wood and the steel.
Thanks, KC! I didn't know what that meant, so I appreciate your input. I sincerely hope you didn't mind me placing pictures of my knife in your thread?

i think in holland there are still a few around it is something like your buck 110 jan ... in these years a lot of people carried one
but i must say that most of these herders are in very bad shape (rust) when i see them

Usually if I look at UK Ebay I can see a few Kees, but as you said they are rusty and pitted
