Steve- Glad you joined our little community here. I'm looking forward to you sharing your knife experience with us.
Did you notice the Case Fan Group yet? As you get moved in and settled in, let me know if I can help.
Scott
Thanks for adding me as a friend. And I would be happy to talk to you anytime you want. You can call me here at the shop. God bless and remember your next knife may be one with my name on it.
Hey Steve where do you like to fish on the coast?
South Eastern ,I like the Outer Banks at the point
when the water temp. gets right, but looks like you
have to go off shore in the gulf to make a Good trip.
I have a friend on the island that sets pots in winter
months an hires out in the summer. Ronnie O'neal he
will do you right ,he sets black pots an we fish his holes
for groupers,5lb black bass two at a time! LOL if gulf
is right we hit the tuna,an some I can't spell! LOL
Steve, You have a very interesting fixed catt. there! I have not seen one like it before. Old Catts are like no other knives. The factory burned years ago and they made so many knives for companies. There are few still around!
That is a nice boat and a nice large mouth bass. Up north they don,t as big. I think that knife is in the OUTERS pattern. Marble's made one and Western and I have seen this pattern in Remington. I have about 300 different CATTARAUGUS patterns and still need some of the rare ones.
Thanks Steve, these are the first time pictures I've took
I'm just getting started But I do see you like Case an so do I.
You have some NICE!! Russlock's!! I have a few but not as
many as you! LOL
Know him well set up at a gun show this weekend with him I have a brochure from the 70's where he would send out a monthly list of knives for sell at one of the past shows I set up at I ask him it he would honor the prices in it . he just laughed (CaseXX for 12 to 25 dollars )
Hey Steve
Delbert wants to know if you'll start an Antique Knife Collectors Group? He wants one. I left him a message on his My Page...y'all talk. If you are interested, join the iKC Leaders Group...we talk about what to do and how to do it. It ain't hard...plus they'll all be old friends of yours (not old as in old but old as in previously known to you :)
Scott
I LEFT A COMMENT ON WHERE ARE ALL THE OLD ANTIQUE KNIFE COLLECTORS AND SCOTT KING THINKS WE SHOULD START A ANTIQUE KNIFE COLLECTORS CLUB. ARE YOU ANY GOOD AT STARTING SOMETHING LIKE THIS?
Should have also said that I bought some "Lancaster County" peaches. They all must have been their early crop because the pits were all split. All I could get from them were the half basket hat pins. (Got one for the new hat already).
I've carved pits that were over a year old and some that were only dried a day or so. I'm no expert, but as long as the "Seed" is removed, I think that the pit will stabilize and not split. A mature pit will be hard either way. Be sure to check out Carving Peach Pits by R. V. Dietrich, on the web.
That's just for the hat pins. Couldn't begin to think how many regular baskets I've carved over the years.
The Deitrich page is the only inspiration that I had before we got a computer. Good luck.
I had just figured how to put a link in the messages.
Be sure to pay attention to figure 1 when you carve.
Let me know how you do. It is kind of addictive.
You're lucky. The very first time I tried it, back when I was a teenager, I cut my finger to the bone.
Quit trying that again till years after I was married. Be sure to keep some bandaids handy.
I'll say that from your start, you'll definately get better. That looks pretty darn good and you should be rite proud of it.
Was carving it any easier or harder than you thought ? (and how are the bandaids holding out, LOL ?)
By the way, what kind of knife are you using ? You using one of your Russlocks or are you holding out on us.
