  • Michael D Sabol

how did you do that?..i was wondering..i would like to do that!
  • J.J. Smith III

    Jeff,
Don't want to eavesdrop, but I saw your message to Scott about photo problems.
I've had the same problem for about a week. I find that if I want to post a pic into a comment and it doesnt take, I close the window and open another. Just had the same problem and had to do just that. Also, when I had problems with loading pics into an album, I had to use the bulk uploader and not the basic uploader.
    Hope it helps.

A few have had that issue off and on (the pics not loading). I emailed NING, but no heard back. When I do I'll post it in the NEWS.
Glad you liked Shelby. She's mighty fun to drive. Yes, I saw your tags- liked them.
You ought to come to Tenn in early Dec for the Parker's Show so we can meet...might be a few prospects there for your group too :)
  • Michael D Sabol

same to you and thanks again!!...i already saved the one i wanted to keep to my computer's photos
  • iKC Gift Shop

And a fine example it is too.
Just post what you'd like to have made into a gift in a comment. The fine folks at the print shop will fine tune the pic, so that it conforms to the Mayors specifications, and then add it to the Gift Shop album.
    Just like this one...

    Capt!

Thanks for the comments! Your work is impressive and I trust you're enjoying this market for shows! How many do you do and how's your take been.... I ask for us all not to be personal but just to know what the custom knife market has been like...

Chris Reeves reports in Blade Mag that their $300 and up has been steady... Do you concur????

Thanks for your comments and contribution to this great discourse...

    Frank
  • iKC Gift Shop

    Thanks, Jeff.
We're going to have to add you to the design team.
Reduced it a bit (Per the Mayor) and added it to the Gift Shop album, for all to use.
  • iKC Gift Shop

    Fun?
You don't know the half of it. It's almost adictive. LOL
I saw that you started an album with iKC gifts. Do you want me to place these into the iKC Gift Shop album here too?
  • Michael D Sabol

  • Rick Cothren

CaptJeff, wrote you a comment back on my page... sorry bout that still learning how this thing works. LOL, anyway you can go there and read it if you like.
  • Rick Cothren

CaptJ, The Imperial Schrade companies closed their doors in July 2004 to bankruptcy. In the bankruptcy proceeding Taylor purchases the intellectual rights to all of their brands (Schrade, Uncle Henry, Old Timer, Tough Tool, Imperial, Schrade Walden, etc. All current production from Taylor Brands are now produced in China. There are however a few current production knives made in the US under contract from Taylor and marketed by Smokey Mountain Knife Works. I believe they are made by Queen but not sure. Those I have seen don't have the same quality as original Schrade knives produced prior to 2004 and I refrain from buying them or selling them. Everything I trade is from pre 2004 stock.

One new note to the Schrade Walden / Ellenville legacy - As I understand it several of the master cutlery craftsman and a couple of the former executives have since started up Canal Street Cutlery in the old Ellenville factory. They are making all knives by hand and in limited runs of 500 or less similar to Great Eastern Cutlery is doing.

Well that's a short summary and hopefully this helps in understanding at least what happened to the original Ellenville factory and to the Schrade names since.
There is a world of additional information out there to be found but it is relatively disorganized and difficult to track down. I and a friend have done a lot of research on Schrade the last several years so I can get plenty of info for you if you have other questions related to Schrade.
  • Rick Cothren

CaptJ just saw the post you made with the pics... well I kinda fell into Schrade because of my father. He was trading a few as well as selling jewelry at gun / knife shows in Tyler, TX about 6 years ago. I would go down and goof around with him at the shows. He always bought Schrade stuff to resell and had a few Schrade items rehandled by some Navajo's that he traded with in NM for his jewelry. They did fantastice work.
Anyway, once I found out Schrade went bankrupt and all their left over factory stock went out onto the market I started trying to find and buy some up. I then sold on ebay for a while and got disenchanted with their format as well as the poor prices I was getting for some of my items so I started doing gun / knife shows and had so much more fun buying, selling, trading that way that I mostly quit ebay and only list occasionally.
As for the pics of the 104ot and 12ot you found those are the new Taylor LLC production knives made in China, same patterns but not the same quality and IMHO never with the true Schrade legacy.
  • Rick Cothren

CJ, haven't done any myself as I don't have the equipment to do that yet. Wish I could put together the funds to get a couple of items that I could use to help in doing some handles. I do know sources where I can get material at very reasonable prices.
But if you ever want to turn some knives in a new market I'm always willing to work with other makers to do something to help them get their name out there and push up demand for their product. I have 2 makers that I do consignment for as they don't do shows regularly so I can get them more exposure in the N. TX area.
Around here Tyler, TX is usually one of my best shows.
  • Mark Henley

I lived there for 26 years, then 15 in South Bend ....

Then I got transfered here to Houston ... been here for about 7 or 8 years now I guess ....

I do try to make knives when I have time. I am a welder and work alot of shutdowns. Between that and my wife I stay pretty busy. I get alot of steel off jobs and even order some. Most of the steel i get is hardened tool steel and the like. My biggest problem is putting holes in it for the handles. I got a pile of drill bits I have ruined in the process. Any suggestions?
  • stephen harrison

thanks jeff. cant wait till Sat.
  • iKC Gift Shop

AG is doing excellent. Sharp as a tack. One heck of a gentleman too. He toured me through his facilities. Nice operation. Wish I had more time to visit. Maybe next time.
Last time I looked we were at like 946 members. I'd think by the end of the year we'll hit 1000. I'm planning on a community party, just haven't figured out how or what to do yet. :)

Thanks for the comments! :-) Scrimshaw is a form of engraving, done on ivory or bone or various synthetics (micarta, corian, etc). The image is built up of microscopic engraved lines and dots, and can be in color or black and white.
  • Randy Musgrave
