I am married to a wonderful women who lets me pursue my passions. I have been collecting knives for years but i just started to make my own knives in 2008 and i have a lot of questions. I joined this site to get some advice and to hone my skills. Right now i make fixed blade knives, and I prefer using stag, and deer bone for the handles. I work in construction doing renovations, decks, and add ons.
Interests
Making and assembling knives, deer hunting both gun and bow, fishing and fly fishing whenever I get a chance.
Jeff .. you're listed here .. under knifemakers .. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Knifeology101/links
JJ & I have been wking on a way to sort & catalog cutlery info .. take a look & let us know what you think .. contributions welcome !!!
Thanks for the welcome to IR group. This is a great group, I am looking forward to the Hammerin in August and my wife was eager to go to. I'll bring a custom sword made in my neck of the woods to share. I also did not know about the chat feature, thanks for the tip
Jeff .. thanks for the comments on the Queen stamping .. as you know .. I do like the different cutlery stamps ..
Say .. have you drafted a CAD file for a CJS stamp yet .. you know .. you could mask the end of a hardened punch and etch your own .. whatever you mask ends up raised .. takes a deep etch though
Something to think about .. when you do go to a tool & die maker for a stamp .. someone will have to generate the CAD file .. who better than yourself !!!
Maybe funny, but sadly it's true. About once a month I do the "Google stroll" and look for new pit carving info, e-bay the same. The offerings are usually estate finds and are for way less than I can carve one for. Sold some carvings to a fellow at the farmers market, last month. He re-sold them at the peach shed where he buys his peaches.
Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the compliment. You make some very nice knives as well. I see you like the natural handle materials also. Beautiful handles on those knives. Keep up the great work.
jeff,
thanks for kind words. sowbelly trappers are a cool knife. i changed the spey blade and made a modified spey. congrats on having a baby. the next generation knife maker.
I used this knife for my cutting competition so I used horse stall mat for the handle for better grip, but I sell this knife as a camp knife with a choice of handle materials.
Hey thanks Jeff! I just subscribed to your channel as well on YouTube. You make alot of very cool knives, alot of quality craftsmanship from what I can see.
Re: Cal legal auto kit .. initial assembly is pretty tight .. the spring hole in the tang of the blade is only half to two thirds drilled .. need to source a harder bit to finish that .. I've a slab of linen micarta destined for the scales .. if I manage to record the assembly .. it'll end up posted in the Repair & Mod grp .. as a kit assembly.
Jeff I just realized you and your wife just had a baby! Congratulations! What a little angel (in the pic) I hope you will post more baby pics so we can see.
Just a quick note of thanks for your greeting. I have collected knives for most of my adult life but eBay has created a vast new "store" for me to check out. iKC will give me an additional information source.
