Hi Ron, I'm new here and not really a collector but I do have a Latama 13" stiletto that was given to me by my grandfather 50 years ago. It is in excellent condition, never cleaned or sharpened. I am interested in selling it but don't know where to start. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Hi Ron, I don't know a lot about Blackjack steel. However I believe that in the late 80's they used 1095 and eventually shifted to 0176-6. They used this until the steel co. producing it went out of business in 1993 and then switched back to 1095 and lastly to 52-100. The info on this is limited. The above steel's are all about 57-59 Rockwell. Occasionally the would order special steals such as such as HSC 1415 be made by their foundry supplier before he went out of business. Many times blade material was left over so one design knife might be made from 1095 and another same design would be made from 52-100. There doesn't seem to be a constant except that most were around 57-59 rockwell and carbon steel. This info is for the Effington made knives and doesn't not cover the later cryo steels of the newer Blackjacks.
Thanks Ron,my friend, I haven't figured out if I'm liking the big 60 yet, or not. I can tell people I know a lot of crap cause I"m old, but on the other hand, getting out of bed is harder than it used to be !! !BTW, Santa, I almost didn't recognize you with the new white beard!!
Thank you for the birthday wishes. Much appreciated, and you are right, the years sure do pick up speed as we go along. But we're still here, what's left of us, and that's the best part.
It does indeed look like Santa will be bringing a couple of new knives if he can find his way out in the desert and the critters don't get him. We are hopeful anyway........
Very good Ron...I am absolutely overwhelemed with the kindness from all of you folks, thanks a million! When I get a chance, I'll take a pic of my 1925 German train model...it's all black with red colored wheels and hardware; it really something else. For now I put a few pics up of the Old Cutler line in cat. 1995..And my company Heritage Cutlers.. were not in business long because my partners were lawyers and not knife people! They did have money but no patience and wanted to show a profit immediately! That aint' happen' with custom knife production. FYI Heritages first order was 5,000, Trapper's, two stainless steel blades hollow ground India Stag handled, Solid NS bolster and stainless steel pin assembly, FOR Mr. Stewart Taylor, Taylor Cutlery.....Mr. Taylor and I go way back! This order was tang stamped and sheilded for Smith and Wesson!! It took me six months to make them, with some help!!
