I have been a keen collector of knives for as long as I can remember. The reason I don't have so many is a talent for losing knives, I like to use them and seem to lose them, good for knife makers profits .
Interests
Collecting slipjoints , learning about knife sharpening and boy am I looking forward to retirement !!
I am sorry to be late to the welcome party, I am at a show LOL. Thank you so much for being here with us. Please let me know if there is anything I can do as you become more familiar with our communit
Yep, that Puma White Hunter was a really great knife. Mine saw a lot of use, both during my military service and for many years afterward, as well. Sadly, that knife just "disappeared" one day. I still get queasy thinking about its loss. I keep imagining that it's still here and that I just haven't found it yet. *sigh* But I know, deep down inside, that it's gone for good.
The only negative issue I observed with that knife, in the nearly 40 years of ownership, was the difficulty in sharpening it. That old Pumaster steel was an out n' out bear to sharpen! For me, at least. But once you got an edge it kept it for a good long time!
Borrowed from J. Mutz's webpage...hope he doesn't mind, since he's a member here and is making this year's iKC knife.
"Cotton Samplers were used by cotton buyers for cutting samples out of bales. These knives were advertised in the late 1800's as folding skinning knives and were usually handled in wood with curved jack handles. They have been discontinued by most knife manufacturers and are becoming very rare."
Thank for the kind compliment. I am new here also & just love it. The members are so pleasant, hospitable & humorous. I miss them when I cannot get back for a few days. Its difficult to research the site as I seem to want to get on chat, as someone always has information that you are looking for & lead you to links where you can find more information.
I came here looking for information for my Moose Skinning Knife & have learned so much about it, that I just couldn't find any where else. I have got so hooked here I now would like to participate in working with knives in my engraving business.
Its a pleasure to meet you and I do hope you enjoy yourself as much as myself & many others. Peace & God Bless you & your family.
John, thanks for the like on my skinner/sheath combo. Since retirement, I enjoy tinkering in the garage & have found doing a knife occasionally is a lot of fun. I do not have the necessary equipment for making blades from scratch. I purchase a blade thru heat treat and grind & go from there. Have collected knives for several years, several pictures of my collection are posted on iKnife.

Hi John,
You are right!
I've been surprised by the number of welcomes, and I'm sure that they will all know a lot more about knives than I do!
