Welcome to iCK. I trust you’ll find this a great resource whether you’re a 50 year collector or a 3 year collector. Scott has set the benchmark for internet communications regarding the interest of knife collectors. On this forum you’ll see posting from industry names like A. G. Russell, Case collector author Steve Pfeiffer and more. Whether you’re a custom knife make, folder collector, hunter pattern enthusiast, or Vintage knife only collector there’s a home for you here. From Photography to the up-and-coming names in production knives and custom knives there’s a forum to seek out answers, post opinions and share and trade ideas and even a knife or two. So welcome again. Dig in, join the group that interest you the most and have fun. As one member sighted to me when I posted s blog about diminishing retail values, he reminded me that it was “whatever is fun” and that’s what really matters.

hello Thomas! you have some great looking knives!! i just got into doing some rehandles and i am having fun!! i would love to pick your brain about what NOT to do! i have learned alot, but have much more to learn! any advice that you have would be appreciated!
I wouldn't know where to start as I am self taught.I guess one trick that helps is ....super glue the old sclaes to whatever material you are going to rehandle and grind down to a hairs breadth from the edge of the old scale, then work it down to a nice flush fit.I go one drill bit size above the pin holes to take the strain off the material, using numbered drill bits Custom make all my pins. Is that any help ? as I don't know where you are in experience or tools. When working pearl NObody is allowed in the shop....I cry if it breaks.
In drilling ivory or pearl, even wood go slow so as not to break through and possibly crack the material. With pearl use a lubricant or drop of water but go slow.Inserting center pin ,taper it so as there is no pressure coming through the other side if the knife .Could cause a crack or split I learned all these the hard way. never force anything taking the knife apart or reassembling it.

Thanks for the nice compliments.I have been on other forums but not able to post my pics unless someone helped me. I really appreciate the things said about my work. Look forward to making friends with the guys on here.
I've known Tom for over 20 years. He is a good man, reverent and honest. He has a real self-taught talent that is just amazing. He is the kind of guy that would help any knife maker that he could with what he has learned. And he is the kind of man that makes you a better person for knowing him.
Hey Tom, I just started a group for filework artists on this webhome as well as a new website for all file work artists around the world to display a sample of their work on. Check it out here:

Thanks for the quick response. 3 to 5 hours! OMG! I would think that it would take a whole lot longer to achieve such a beautiful effect as what I am seeing in some of your masterpieces. That is just amazing to me. That you can transform those steel blades, back springs and spacers into such incredible works of art. Especially in that little amount of time. I am truly in awe of your talent and ability. And, the prices you've mentioned seem astonishingly reasonable. Again, amazing!
Hey, Tom! Can you believe that another year has come and gone! It's like the old saying, "Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer to the end you get the faster it goes!"
