About Me
My dad always had lots of pocketknives in his chest of drawers when I was a kid and most were Case. As a youth I felt a special attraction to case knives every time I went in a hardware store with a display. I moved to Athens AL. in 1976 and spent 3 years there working for Auburn University as a research associate doing on farm soil test calibration of fertilizer and lime in 12 counties in north AL. I met Bill Strain in Athens, AL. who had a nice collection, then I met Jim Sargent who lived in Florence, AL. I was 25 yrs young in those days, I visited Jim fairly often and he would let me go through his knives looking them over and admiring them. In the course of doing that I wiped every one of them clean and he told me he appreciated my visits for one thing because he got his knives cleaned! Of course I would buy a XX when I could afford to add one to my collection now and then. Now 4o years later I have quite a few rare old Case knives of my own to enjoy.

That deer in my profile picture was a six point (4x2) buck. It was my second deer kill, the first with my own gun. The previous season I had killed a spike buck with a borrowed 7 mm magnum. Before the next season I acquired my .30-06. I have now killed a total of 16 deer, 12 with my '06, 2 with my muzzleloader, 1 with the borrowed 7 mm, and one with my crossbow.
This link will take you to a story about the next to last deer I killed.
We have a liberal deer season here in Alabama. The bow season opens in mid Oct. and runs through Jan. The gun season opens in mid Nov. and runs through Jan. The limit is two a day. The most I have killed in one season is four.
When were you in Athens and did you have any dealings with anyone from TVA while you were here? I can't put a finger on anything, but for some reason your name seems to ring a bell with me.
Alan, I didn't come to Athens until 1987 so we never met. But I must have worked with some body either in TVA or outside with the same or similar name. It just keeps ringing bells in my head but I can't recall anyone.
I am a member of the CCC. In fact I have also signed my 2 year old grandson Danny up as a junior member. I have signed up for the forum but haven't used it very much. I need to get on it more.
In 2013 I bought the regular and junior member knives. Since they had 2012 junior member knifes left, I was able to also purchase the 2012 junior member knife for Danny. My plan is to purchase the junior member knife each year and if I am around long enough, present all sixteen of them to him on his sixteenth birthday.
Oh, and I will also purchase the regular member knife each year for myself.
Thank you for the friendship, Alan-My impending retirement has me both excited and a little nervous at the same time about what my future holds. I'll keep you posted !!
