I began making knives in 1999. Over the years I have worked in many fields including construction, welding, a horse ranch, vol. firefighting, Criminal Justice, and the oilfield. I love hunting, camping, and just about anything outdoors. All of these things along with input from customers are combined into the designs of my knives. I love knifemaking and field test my knives on a regular basis.
Metalworking is a longstanding family tradition. It goes back to my great grandfather Patrick Graham born in West VA. in 1859. Patrick moved to central MO. as a young man and opened his blacksmith shop. It was told to my grandmother that he was one of the best blacksmiths in the state. His son and my great uncle was Charles Graham. "Uncle Charlie" was a member of the Knifemakers Guild in the 1970's and 80's ending his knifemaking around 1990 due to health reasons. Sadly, that was a few years before I started making knives. I did however have the opportunity to talk to him about knifemaking and get some pointers on a couple of my knives that he saw. I have modified and incorporated some of his knife designs into my own knives.
I am presently making knives full time and working on developing my product line based off of input from my customers on their needs.. I am reviewing custom orders on a case by case basis but my standard models take preference.
Along with making knives I was nominated and currently serve as a founding board member of the Texas Knifemaker's Guild. I am honored to be a part of building this great organization and promoting the craft of handmade knives.
I'd like to thank my loving wife for her support of my knifemaking endeavors. Without her encouragement I wouldn't be making knives for a living. She is a fantastic mother and our children are blessed to be under her care.
Also Mr Travis Payne has been very instrumental in helping me become a better knife maker. Thanks Travis for all you have taught me and for opening your shop to me while mine was under construction. You are a true friend and great mentor.
Troy Hawley is another inspiration in the area of knife design. Spending time with him has helped me to see things I wouldn't have normally thought of. Thanks for your friendship.
