Whoops Terry .. my mistake .. It's the SCALY I was looking @ ..
I hadn't shopped it in awhile .. went back to a saved link to grab the info below .. found it's now declared as 440C ..
Looking for a knife for my daughter .. will be taking a closer look @ this ..
SCHRADE SCALY
This classic looking knife has a mirror polished 440C stainless steel blade on a gray anodized aluminum handle with yellow Delrin scales. A push of the button lock releases the coil spring.
SCAL (California legal length) has a 1.75" blade and is 4.75" overall.
Terry .. here's a Schrade/Taylor that I was looking @ for myself .. I'm pretty sure this is NOT w/ 440C steel ..
The Shrade SC-1. The blade is of the spear shape, sharp and effective. We couldn't find what type of steel is used, but it feels as a good one. The firing is fast and smooth. The handle is made of steel with G-10 scales. The clip is non removable.
Terry .. the 400 series stainless steel is generally .. well .. not the best ..
If it's more expensive steel .. ATS34 /154CM , D2 .. they make that evident .. sales ..
When the steel type is generically called out as "400 series" or "440 stainless" .. it's generally indicative of 420, 440A, or 440B .... none of which are real great ~ imo .... max hardness typically mid 50's Rc .. lowers raw matl / production cost's though ..
Oh .. & the bead blasted is just the finish .. both are the same steel
Hey Terry Great Farm!! I know you are proud to have all you have in life!
Looks like you are enjoying life too the fullest !! I love any thing outdoors an farming also, wished I lived out west sometimes for the Hog hunts an Predator hunts! Keep loving your Family!! And making True Friends!!
Doug
That's what I have done Retired an paid off everything also, Got a few head of cattle an Bore goats but want more cattle like to have about 30 females 2 years old to bred a year!
Thanks, Terry! I can't afford to collect high-end knives, so I go for diversity, age and ethnicity in the lower price range. It's a lot of fun without too much expense.
Terry .. green on the farm .. I bet .. pretty wet here .. too wet for the farmers to get in the fields @ the moment ..
Just posted some "modifications" I've done .. pic album = "MODIFICATIONS" ..
.. been thinking of starting a grp around that theme .. just about everyone has modified or dreamt of an "improvement" they'd like to add .. think it would generate enough interest to generate ongoing discussion & interest ???
Admittedly .. it's been 30 yrs since I've lived on a farm .. what a wonderful childhood environment (age 6~18) ..
I remember having to let the cows out easy on their first time off dry hay & on green grass .. if memory serves .. they'd bloat ..
Same if they got through a fence into an alfafa field .. they'd gorge on it & bloat .. again, if memory serves ..
Funny aside .. fall of the yr .. nasty windy rain storm .. apples all over the gnd under some apple trees on the ridge pasture land .. some days later .. apples soured .. cows found em .. one so drunk couldn't get up .. another, could not walk straight .. funny as all s#! !!
Yeah .. I remember the tool .. ours was about a 1" dia SS tube .. about 4 or 5" long .. had a tight fitting spike inserted through it .. the sharpened end of the "spike" barely protruded to form the tip of the tool .. after the tool was inserted .. this cntr spike was withdrawn .. the air/gas escaped ..
terry if there is any way i could get some of those arrow heads i sure would apercate it.my if you could leave message on my page i would like to give you my e-mail thanks.....

Today is the first time I've seen any vendor list the steel type as 440C ~ SCALB/Y only !!!
I'm still quite hesitant on the SCTAC .. may bite on the SCALY though ..
.. SCALY + jigged bone / stag / micarta ivory scales + recessed contoured release button ..
Yeah .. I just may bite on that SCALY !!!
