  • Andy Voelkle "AxeMan"

I'm proud to be friends, Terry. You got me thinking all the way back to my first freezing rain icy campout with the Boy Scouts in 1958. My dad had just agreed to be Assistant Scoutmaster to Scoutmaster Bob Stephenson, who was a well known sports writer in the postwar era. Uncle Bob did not really want to go out that weekend, but my dad had pledged that he would take us Scouts camping once a month, regardless. It was only later in 1972 when I was Scoutmaster of my old troop — nobody else to keep the troop of eight boys from disappearing.

So our first scheduled campout was nicer weather, but late one evening before "lights out" I was playing with a new axe, and I heard one scout ask another if he wanted to chop some more, and the young scholar and woodsman looked up and gave me that moniker. It is rapidly being replaced by "old woodsman" as I have axes I've yet to enjoy. Just had to get that recollection into the record. If the kids had stayed up a little, an hour in these 42 years, they could have seen me playing with a new tuttle-tooth crosscut saw, and probably called me "sawyer". I'm real lucky nobody got up and saw me with a thermos of Louisiana coffee and donuts.Go figure.

Thanks Terry for the like post on twitter and comment ,  So it's called a "rattail" What i find unusual about it is that it has four pins holding the handles on. which I believe is rose wood .All of my references do not have a four pin hunter only 3 pin . I'd like to be able to date this one, but have run out of references; I'm in the process of going thru Bokers  web site now

I do suppose that at this point I should suspend Terry's membership.  I can do so and leave all his presence/postings here,  It is the hardest thing I do here on iKC.  It is removing the link to a friends page.  I wanted to say Happy Birthday just one more time.  So for those of you who would like to do that also...I will leave the ability to do so up for another day

    Happy Birthday my friend

Can Terry's account be left here as a memorial.

    or

    is that macabre

    .

I believe .. if stated as such .. it'd be fit.

    .

I personally vote for a memorial of sorts.

  • Steve Scheuerman (Manx)

As would I. He brought a lot to iKC, and was a great person. Hate to see him "go".

  • J.J. Smith III

I do miss my friend, still.

How about a special classification of "In Memoriam" membership?
  • Jan Carter

Thank you all for help on how to address this.  I like this idea (see his avatar)

I think that is great Jan. Terry and Cherry were both great people and we need to remember them. I do miss them both so much.

  • J.J. Smith III

It looks great. Thanks for keeping him with us, this way.
