I have some friends that like to remove their thumb studs and add a Zip-tie so they can open the knife during withdrawal from their pocket. I thought it was cheap & "Ghetto" like, so I drew something up and this is what I made during my free time at my machine shop.

.020 301Stainless folded over & Spot welded to a piece of 1/8" square Stainless.

The one on my knife is the Prototype, the others will be given to those friends I mentioned.

Brad, I am betting you could sell that

If I could get the authorization to start a short production run (1000 pcs). With someone other than me making them, I could afford to sell them for around $8.50/ea. But if I charge my rate, Fuh-ged-about-it.

The best thing is it works on every knife with a thumb stud. May need a little modifications depending on where the handle is in relation to the stud hole. The first one I made was for my 710, this one will fit any blade.

So Brad, when you reach into your pocket to withdraw the knife does your thumb rest on this device to "flick" open when you pull the knife out?

No. You grasp your knife like you normally would and during withdrawal drag the spine of the blade along the top of you pocket. The bolt-on is just high enough to catch, thus opening the blade after the tip is out of your pocket.

I might have to make a video, or slide show.

BTW- This bolt-on only works with Tip-up pocket knives with thumb studs.

A video that demonstrates the technique might be a good idea if you have time. I like the capability, would be a huge time and money saver and in essence, with the add on, would create a one-hand knife and adapt to any of your knives that are tip up, thumb stud knives..

I don't know if this will work. But this is a link to a quick Video of the device.

Very COOL!  I see a great need for these for folks that work with their hands full but need their knife open

When I get my AG Russell knife it is on a thumbstud and it also will ride tip up so this just might be a candidate for the device Brad has made.I should know more sometime this week.

Be sure to let me know the model, I don't own any AG Russell knives so I don't know if there will be a clearance issue with the handle.
