Sog Trident

My first serious (read: expensive, aka over $50) knife purchase as a collector, the SOG Trident checked a lot of boxes for me. Unfortunately, there's a lot of side-to-side blade play -- it's pretty bad, especially considering all the knives at lower…

Notes on Building a Knife Collection

Like many (but certainly not all) new knife collectors, I started my knife collecting focused on fixed blades -- why would anyone bother with folders? I thought -- it's not like anyone's going to carry those really expensive art pieces anyway, and who would even use a knife that cost more than $100 when you can get the same work done with a $20 Kershaw without worrying about chipping something like S30V?  Besides, you're paying more for a folder when it's just a knife that's "pre-broken" by the…See More

National Knife Day 8/24/2019!

Posted on August 22, 2019 at 23:25 44 Comments

Every year we have an excuse to buy a new knife -- National Knife Day, every August 24!

Yeah, I know it's a holiday made up by a marketing department to sell knives, & none of us really need an excuse to buy another knife.

That aside, what are your plans for celebrating...?  :)

Camillus CK9: The knife used by Dual Survival's Grady Powell

Posted on May 5, 2016 at 22:12 3 Comments

Recently I had the chance to watch another episode of the current season of Dual Survival, & again got to see Grady Powell using the Camillus CK9.  Somewhere I saw someone online stating that Grady Powell designed the knife, but I have not yet been able to confirm or deny this.  Camillus has very little detail on the CK9 on its website, & of course TOPS doesn't have anything public about this on its website because it's not technically a TOPS knife.

Grady Powell designed…

I have a SP8 in my camper and two air force survivors knives. One that has never been used the other I found at work. It is the one I take on most of my outdoor activities. Here's the ones that get used a lot in the yard.

Thanks for the welcome, it's good to be here. And yes, I have seen that funny vid from the guy complaining how gec 'ruined' him. I know the feeling well. Spyderco collectors love to complain about getting skunked on a sprint run but that is nothing. At least you can buy some kind of PM2 or Shaman when you want. Try liking a knife company and NEVER being able to buy a new knife from a dealer. That is GEC world.

Thank you, but this is my first attempt at restoration. I have a couple others I am gonna be working on as well

(They're just not as cool)

But all I have used so far on that knife is heavy scotch brite and a lower setting on my dremel with a wire wheel.

I haven't begun anything on the handle yet, I'm trying to decide what I want to do to save the stacked leather if possible

Thanks for the welcoming, it's cool to be here
