Bill Wiebe Custom Skinner
This is a review of a Bill Wiebe custom skinner. Bill Wiebe is a British Columbia, Canada, custom knife maker and is member of the Western Canada Knife Association.
The knife is 7 1/2 inches long with a 3 1/2 inch drop point blade. The handles are Brazilian Rosewood. The blade is 420HC stainless steel.
On initial examination, I was impressed by how well the handles felt and fit in my hand. The palm swell on the end of the handle falls just right in my palm and the extension on the bottom of the blade keeps my hand from sliding forward on the blade. And the knife just looks good too!
I recently got a chance to try the knife out when I made my first kill of this deer season.
The knife was sharp and slit the skin and opened up the stomach cavity easily. Cutting around the anus was no problem. I even cut part way through the breat bone just to see if I could. Although about half way through I switched to a bigger heavier knife. I didn't skin the deer. I just peeled off part of the skin to see how the knife worked for that task. I found that by holding my forefinger on top of the blade near the point, it gave me precise control of the blade. It removed the skin quickly and easily. It would not have taken long at all to complete skin the deer.
When done, the blade was still sharp. All in all, a very nice knife.

The bottom sheath was made by Indian. He did a very good job.

Indian is turning into quite the sheath maker, I can see he is very good at it! I am so glad you took the time to write this up for us Charles, gives us another maker to be on the lookout for. Looks and sounds like one nice knife!
