No, its not a fund raiser, we give each father a gift and this year it is a knife. We give Mothers flowers on Mothers day.

I was debating on where to put this one.  I think it may have been made for fly-fishers considering the blade combinations but the scales screamed "Novelty" so I decided to post here!  It is a purple Dragon Knife made by Niko in Japan.  Blades seems to be stainless steel.  Over all quality is "OK" at best.  The scissor are really good.  It features brass pins, liner and bail.  The handles are a deep translucent purple celluloid .  The dragon and and dragon head on the reverse side seem to be made from what looks like silk thread that is embedded in the celluloid. Either that or it is sandwiched between and purple and clear layer of celluloid.  either way it looks as if thread made of mother pearl!  I have no idea when it was made but I suspect post WWII most likely the 1960s.  The closed lenght is approximately 3.5 inches

I saw some knives with handles like that, when I was a boy back in the 1960's.

$4 on eBay.  I couldn't pass it up.  Blades have some wobble due to the original owner not paying attention when closing it but I think I can fix it.

What will you try to fix it? I've given them a love tap with a rubber hammer and it helped.

That is about it, Robert.  I've done love taps and it does wonders.  I've also done placed them in a vice and squeezed them but this is trickier.  you have to be sure you are only putting pressure on the pin and the scales/frame.  You also can't apply too much pressure or you'll warp or snap the pint.  Same can happen with love taps.  At $7 I can risk it.

Just what I needed!  Another Japanese "dragon" knife.  But this one was in better shape and cost less than the other!   That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

The top one is the the latest addition to the collection. It looks very much like the Japanese Camp knives from the 1950s-1960s.  I think this is when they were made. Both have brass bails, celluloid handles, and the embedded dragon that appears to made of finely spun silk thread.  Both around 3.5 inches long.  More pictures below:

The blade combinations are interesting.  I truly just stumbled on both knives.  Strangely enough, they did not come from the same eBay seller.  Even scarier is i found them about a week apart on Ebay using a search strategy of "Knife, Time Ending Soonest, Auction Only."  I have since tried finding more with targeted searching and have found nothing!  Go figure.

I have been waiting on a little knife from India, a Kris religious ceremony type of thing. It's taking a while to get here but I promise to give the history and post a picture.
