The Toro is Kizer’s first collaboration with Matt Diskin. Diskin comes from a robotics background and runs a small knife company of his own, Volcan Knives

Benchmade is offering

781 Anthem
87 Balisong
560 Freek
590 Boost
5700 Presidio II

You can see them at the Knife Center.  As many of you may recall we posted at the end of 2016 that Benchmade was dropping a good many knives from their line.  Good to see they are jumping right on the replacements

We are seeing some manufacturing from SOG return to the USA!!

SOG has produced knives in the US in the past, but in recent years virtually all their manufacturing has moved to Asia. Given its appeal among the military and LEO, SOG felt it needed to bring some manufacturing back to the states. Given our heritage, it is important for us to be producing knives in the U.S.A. once again says SOG.

Cold Steel has actually announced a massive line up for the first 1/4 of 2017.  The best article I saw on this was on Knife News

SHIPPING IN FEBRUARY
Immortal
Cold Steel team member Mike Wallace, the man behind last year’s Colossus, designed the equally imposing new for 2017 Immortal. A 4” bladed, gladius-inspired knife, the Immortal isn’t for the faint of heart. This plus-size tactical knife will be available in two color options.

Cold Steel Immortal

Frenzy
Modeled after the Kabutowari weapon, the Demko-designed Frenzy has an elongated, 5.5” wharncliffe-style blade and two-tone G-10 handle. The long, flat cutting edge and needle point make the Frenzy equally capable as a working knife or for self-defense. A slender profile and lightweight construction keeps the weight well under 6 oz. You can pick up a Frenzy in one of three colors.

Night Force
Cold Steel is establishing what they call the “tactical classy” market with the Night Force. The knife certainly looks both aggressive and stylish with its blacked out color scheme and high-end carbon fiber G-10 laminate construction. It’s outfitted with the HTR Thumb Ramp and a striking, Persian-style 4” blade made of rose-patterned Damascus DSC steel.

Cold Steel Night Force

Working Man
The Steve Austin Working Man is a modified rendition of the award-winning Pro-Lite. Its drop point blade is not available in the Pro-Lite line, but otherwise materials remain the same: 4116 stainless steel and GFN handle scales. The Working Man is available in three colors.

SHIPPING IN MARCH
Charm
The Charm is probably not the kind of knife anyone was expecting from Cold Steel. This pint-sized slipjoint is designed to fit on a key ring or worn as a watch pocket knife. It still benefits from Cold Steel’s commitment to high-end steel with an 1.25” S35VN blade.

1849 Rifleman’s Knife
Knives like the Frenzy and the Immortal reimagine historical knives in a modern way, but the Rifleman’s knife is much more of a straight recreation. It will probably be a collector’s piece for most customers, but the 12” long 1085 steel blade could easily be put into outdoor use.

SHIPPING IN APRIL
SR1
Cold Steel’s SRK fixed blade is a staple in their lineup. Andrew Demko took inspiration from the popular knife for the SR1 folder. It puts the same beefy, all-purpose clip point blade into a spacious G-10 handle. The end result is what looks like one of Cold Steel’s most robust offerings of the year.

Cold Steel SR1

Grik
The Grik would be an unusual offering in anybody’s lineup. A compact, tough folder along the lines of knives like the Tuff Lite, it is the smallest knife to feature the HTR Thumb Ramp. A divot on the blade allows for fine control during cuts, and a molded plastic pocket clip is designed to reduce hot spots during prolonged use.

Khan
The Khan, another Mike Wallace design, is aimed at the same budget-friendly market as the Pro-Lite and Working Man (see above). Blue G-10 scales provide a refreshing splash of color, and the presence of the HTR Thumb Ramp means that even value-oriented customers have a chance to test out the new deployment method.

Exciting to me, although I have not seen one yet.  ESEE is gearing up to release a folder!!

Also an early release for SHOT SHOW is the new Schatt & Morgan 71 Express auto.  A dealer review

The S&M 71 Express shipped this week and it didn’t disappoint.  It’s a really cool nostalgic take on the old KaBar Grizzly.  And if you can’t handle the $2000+ price for an original, this is a viable option.

I quickly found out it’s a little bit quirky to operate from a modern day push button.  For effective operation you want to get your thumb high up on the bolster.

While using the tip of your index finger to set things in motion.

It has a serious spring in it so it’s not made for the meek.

You’ll notice the gap in the liner/spring area which is the way things have to be to operate.  That’s not a design or manufacturing flaw.

In addition, apparently the design results in the blade lying to the left of center which was consistent in every knife I looked at which also leads me to think it has to do with the design.

Another interesting detail is the center pin on the bottom almost appears to be spun or more accurately, peened and is consistent with all of the knives.  That pin goes all the way through to the other side while the front and rear bottom pins appear to only go through the handle material and liner so I’m assuming their is a strength factor involved.  There is a small amount of side play in most of the knives which disappears when a small amount of pressure is placed on the locking lever from the ‘shield’ side.  All in all it’s a really fascinating old automatic.

addendum: The first release of these have sold out with every dealer i have spoken to.  There will be more for pre order, here are the handle options

See something coming out?  Share it here with us please :)

Shot show officially begins on Thursday, is anyone else getting excited about the new toys??

New Kershaw and Zero Tolerance lineups. Can't say I am overly excited about any of them. But I am sure someone will like them.

I am liking that Pillar!
