The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I didn't see an Ontario Knives group, and I don't really collect them (have three, AF Survival, RAT-7 in D2 & just got the Blackbird SK-5).
Supposed to have been shooting guns this weekend, but the wife of one of the crew went to the hospital Friday morning. Thought we might be able to leave later or later in the weekend, but she was admitted. Anyway, I was taking along the SK-5 to test it out, but will have to wait for the re-schedule of this trip. Any of you folks have experience with the SK-5? I picked mine up at the Ontario Factory in Franklinville, NY on a trip to Bradford a couple weeks ago.
If you haven't been to the Ontario Factory, here's a tip: You can only buy knives currently in stock at the factory - no ordering/shipping. Also, you pay 8% NY sales tax at the factory store. So, I wanted to pick up a P3 Quartermaster - similar in shape to my Cattaraugus 225-Q, but they were out of stock at the factory - which is how I got the SK-5 - it was in stock.

Howard,
Thanks for the tips. Hope your buddies wife is doing better. Sorry they did not have your P3 Quartermaster. Did they have a fairly good selection at the factory?
Jan,
They have all the knives they make on a peg board in the front office. I only asked about a couple knives on the board. You just pick one and the person manning the first desk looks it up on the computer to see if there is warehouse stock. She then calls the "floor" to have someone bring the knife down. So, it's hit or miss. The Blackbird SK-5 price at the factory is $99.40 + NY state tax, so the initial price is better than I have seen on the internet.
btw, Franklinville, NY - an easy trip from W.R. Case & Sons in Bradford, PA seems to be forgotten by time. The Ontario factory is pretty much the same as it was in 1914, and could use a facelift, and they do not offer tours of the factory. I am still at the "way station" for the shooting trip and don't have access to my computer files or I would add a couple photos of the factory. Ontario appears to be the only industry in this village, and the factory is a block off main street fronted by residential homes - kinda like Queen Cutlery, but Titusville, PA is a much bigger town. In Contrast, Great Eastern is in the industrial part of Titusville.
