Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I'm not asking what is the best method but actually what is your method of storage.  I'm also aware that it many cases the answer is "depends!"

That said, how  do you normally store your rods and reels?

Does your storage method depend on if the rod is being used frequently or rarely used?

Do you keep them rigged and if a multiple piece rod do you break the rods down?

Do you remove the reel from the rod?

Do store them horizontal or vertically?  (I've hear horror stories of storing cane pole horizontally but then I've heard bad thing about storing cane poles vertically also!)

Do you use a rack or do you have cases/tubes?

Or do you just shove 'em up in the rafters of the garage and hope for the best!

Well that is an interesting question because of course our ways have changed because the type of fishing changed.  We always left them rigged and hooked onto the lower part of the bail.

We did have them in tubes but due to the moisture issue this week, the tubes mildewed. Sooo, the fly rods have new tubes.  The reels are in wooden boxes with silica.  The conventional equipment is standing with the reels attached.

As of this week they are now unrigged, with a loop at the end of the line which hooks over the reel.  The rods and reels have been taken to the storage facility to make room for some of the knife making equipment.  With the exception of 3 custom rods, which are hanging horizontally on the wall

I have a two piece vertical rack on the wall of my garage.  The bottom piece is a holder that the butts of the rods sit in.  The top piece has foam padded slots that the rods slide into.  I keep them rigged and not broken down.  The reels stay on the rods.

The rack holds six but I only have five in it.  I have two Shimano spinning reels and three spincasting reels, a Zebco 33, a Garcia and a Johnson.

Tobias, I store all my rods - 20 some, in racks on the wall, in my shop and the garage.

I used part of one wall in my garage. I bought a couple of lengths of 2 inch PVC mounted 2 boards across several studs in the garage. Drilled holes in the tube so a screw could be set in the far side attaching them to the to the horizontal board. Each tube was then cut to size up to the reel and a slot was cut in the tube for the reel stop. So all my reels are neatly stored on the garage wall using very little space. If anyone would like a photo i can post one.

All reels are stored off the rods.

Most reels are stored minus line as I put new stuff on every year.

All rods are broken down, bagged and cased and stored horizontally.

We have to keep a humidifier going for 8 months of the year.

I keep 2 fly outfits (3 & 5 wt), 2 spinning outfits (light and ultra) and one trolling outfit set up for the season, broken down and stored in rod & reel carry tubes.  Just have to attach hooks and are good to go.

Vance,

I would like to see that !  Might be an idea for us

Actually it 1 1/2 inch PVC see the attached picture.

I do like that idea Vance.  We are trying to figure out how they will be stored in the long term.  They will be coming home from the mini storage sometime this week
