Camillus, N.Y. — Though Camillus Cutlery closed in 2007 and the factory burned in 2013, its knives are living on in a new way in the village.
Rock USA Cutlery is open for business at 65 Main St. Brothers Peter and Wallace Rockwell are the owners.
The store specializes in buying, selling, repairing and sharpening. Most of its business is focused on vintage Camillus Cutlery items, Peter Rockwell said.
Wallace Rockwell worked for Camillus Cutlery for 34 years and later launched his own knife sales and service business online, Peter said.
The old Camillus Cutlery building can even be seen from Rock USA's windows, he added.
The store is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
Camillus Cutlery was the heart of the village of Camillus for years. Its roots stretch back to 1894 when Charles Sherwood opened a pen knife factory along the banks of Nine Mile Creek.
The factory eventually employed hundreds and made a million knives a year before the business shutdown in 2007 and the building burned six years later.
