Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Looking for any information on this knife.  Was in a safe deposit box for a while.  According to my mother it was given to my grandfather in 1962ish. Thanks ahead of time!

Nice knife Steven.

The U makes since.  Under the "R" the tang stamp should read USA

Here are a couple pics of Tony Bose's own Russell Grand daddy barlow- Note- Steven's is the fish scaler version- Tony describes his as very rare, although their have been reproductions of this knife-- Trying to get him to take a look at yours, Steven to authenticate-- Here are Tony's pics.- The first pic is a cover of a Russell guide-- Unfortunately the book retails for around $120.00 LOL

Steven,

Tony Bose has an example of one of these in his collection so I asked him about it.  His reply is

The Russel was made in the early 30s in carbon and stainless.

I am glad I asked, I would have assumed later due to the stainless marking.  I trust him and his knowledge on this

thanks for the info everyone! No matter what I have a great piece to pass on to my son!

Yes Steven you do!  It is a rare piece especially in good shape.  Write down what ever history you know about it in your family and put it with the knife so he will know about it too

Steven, a very rare and valuable Grand Daddy Barlow-- BTW, I don't know your level of knife expertise, but Tony Bose is a legend in the knife world-- If he dates your knife and says it is very rare, you can take that to the bank !!!!  More than happy to help you out --

John, thanks!  My knife expertise is above average but only with new knives, novelty knives, post WWII, etc but my research over the past day on this knife along with the help I have received here have got me hooked.  I'm checking out Tony Bose stuff right now on bosenkives.com!  Thanks again.
